Hi from Australia,

Does anyone know if there are records available for burials at Stilton.  I'm looking for any burial information for the Ruff and Busby Surnames at Stilton up until around 1930.

Australia / SA marriage by 'special licence'
« on: Friday 30 December 11 07:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi and happy new year,

I found a marriage in a SA newspaper in 1887 where the bride and groom were married by the Rev J. Perry by special licence.

Does any one know what the 'special licence' means?

Australia / Marriage & BISA help in SA please.
« on: Thursday 01 December 11 00:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a marriage for a Charles Symers Linton to Rosie Halford on 21st Jan 1885 at Robe.  Rosies father was Thomas Regan which indicates that Rosie may have been married before to a Mr Halford.

Could someone please check and see if this is the case.

Also any BISA info ( if there is any) on Charles Symers Linton would be great as well.  I believe that Charles S Linton was born in India.

Thanks
Gerry

Berwickshire / Greenknow, Gordon.
« on: Wednesday 30 November 11 03:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi from Australia,

I originally had placed this query on the Northumberland forum board by mistake.

The 1841 Census has John Young and his family residing at Greenknow, Gordon, Berwickshire and in 1851 his widow, Elizabeth Young and her family are still residing at Greenknow.

John Young, a shepherd died 30th March 1847 at Greenknowe and is buried at the Gordon Churchyard.

Am I correct to think that Greenknow may have been an Estate or something similar outside of the village of Gordon.

Regards
Gerry

Australia / 1900 Queensland Electoral Roll Qualification Query
« on: Monday 24 October 11 00:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

It looks like that the qualification for entry on the 1900 Queensland State Electoral Roll was by residence, freehold, leasehold or householder but I'm keen to know if one had to be a British Subject.

I have a person whom qualified to be on the 1900 roll by residence in September 1895 but his Queensland Marriage Certificate from 1894 states that he was born in New York so he would not have been a British Subject.

Hi,

I am looking for BISA information on.

Franz Heinrich Christian BITTER and Johann Carl Christian BITTER.

These brothers arrived in Port Adelaide on the "Peter Goddefroy" in 1857 and probably settled at Lyndoch.

Australia / Lutheran Church in Adelaide 1846
« on: Friday 05 August 11 06:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a marriage on 6th April 1846 which was held at the Trinity Church in Adelaide by the reverend James Farrell.

The bride and groom were residing at Klemzig and had recently come out from Germany on the "George Washington" so I assume they were Lutheran.

Wonder why they were married in the Church of England, was it because there was no Lutheran Church established in 1846 ( I can't imagine this to be the case).

Any ideas.
