Carlow / Re: McAsey/McAssey
« on: Sunday 19 April 20 02:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello Noland01, Thomas and Anne Conway and family immigrated in 1910. John and Bridget and Family also immigrated but not altogether. The family were supposed to depart on the ship The Dorset but only Nora and Thomas arrived. There must have been some incident that delayed the others. John Bridget and the other family members arrived in 1912. Ellen Conway daughter of John and Bridget died in 1906 in Balleyellen. Sadly the girls passed away early Norah 1921, Margaret 1922, Maria 1923 followed by Thomas in 1929 and William 1937. Christopher lived to 70 years of age.
I am not convinced that the record I have for the Birth/Baptism in 1830 for Ellen is the correct one. A marriage for Ellen and Thomas would give her father’s name. Have had a quick look this morning but have had no success. Also scrolled through the births again. I have been very surprised in my family research of people putting incorrect information not checking their facts properly and then posting it and then other people copying it.
I have very much appreciated your help. It is good to have an extra pair of eyes and someone who has a knowledge of the areas which the search centres around.
Kind Regards

Thanks to both Noland01 and Maggsie your help is much appreciated. You need X-ray vision to look at some of those records. I notice on the baptism record for John that Ellen is recorded as Eleanora. John had twin daughters named Ellen and Honoria (Nora). Wondering if the girls names were a combination of the name Eleanora. I don’t have any information on James Conway.
Someone sent me a possible birth for a Ellen McAsey born in 1830 and baptised on the 29th January,1830. Parents listed as Thomas McAsey and Catherine Tallan. I also made contact last week with a McAsey who shares DNA with me and is classed as a 4th to 6th cousin. His ancestor was a
Thomas McAsey born about 1812 and immigrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1855. We are going to try and work out where  our connection is on the McAsey line.

I am looking for a birth date and parents names plus marriage date and possible relatives for Ellen McAsey. Ellen was born about 1830 in Ballyellen, County Carlow. She married Thomas Conway and their son Thomas was born on the 29th December, 1861. He was followed by John in 1864 and James in 1867. Ellen died in Balleyellen on the 30th October 1884 and Thomas died on the 22nd May 1891 also in Balleyellen.

Hello Colin

Sorry incorrect spelling Helen's mother's maiden  name was Margaret McLauchlane. Helen died in 1895 in Glasgow.
I am seeking descendants from her children. Or descendants from her father's siblings.

Cork / Re: Jeremiah Callaghan
« on: Wednesday 18 March 20 23:36 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you Hallmark, Yes that is the family on the 1911 census. I don’t think the Jeremiah you found is  the correct one however scrolling through I found another entry for a Jeremiah who died on the 31st December, 1923 registered in 1924. The informant was a cousin Dennehy and if you look on the 1911 census there was a nephew, Jeremiah Dennehy listed so I think there is a good chance of that being the correct one.

Thank you for your help and steering me in the right direction.

Cork / Jeremiah Callaghan
« on: Wednesday 18 March 20 22:27 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find a record of death for my gg.grandfather, Jeremiah Callaghan. Jeremiah was born in 1839 to John Callaghan and Mary Goold. He married Julia Crowley in 1862 and they had the following children Mary 1863, John 1864, Jeremiah 1866-1871, Julia 1868, James 1870, Jeremiah 1871, Ellen 1874, Catherine (Kate) 1875, Hanora (Nora) 1878, Margaret 1880 and Hannah 1883. Julia died in January 1911 and Jeremiah was still alive as he was on the 1911 census. They were a farming family in Cronody, Cork. I have only been able to find a death for a Jeremiah Callaghan in 1924 which is not a match as the informant is a son Patrick.

Colin

I know that Helen's was born about 1822 but cannot find a record. Her parents were James and Margaret (Machlane) Thomson. Her brothers Archibald b 1826, John  b 1826 and Alexander 1830 also no record of births.

The census for 1841 shows them but with Janet who was the 2nd wife of James. Margaret died in 1834.
