23. I always take life with a grain of salt. Plus a slice of lemon and a shot of tequila.

You would be quite at home in Texas!   ;D

United States of America / Texas graveyard visitation on private property
« on: Thursday 13 December 18 04:25 GMT (UK)  »
As published in the Texas Monthly magazine:  "Section 711.041 of the Texas Health and Safety Code does allow for visits by family and the general public no matter where on the private property the burial ground is situated.  It states, "Any person who wishes to visit a cemetery or private burial grounds for which non public ingress or egress is available shall the right to reasonable ingress and egress for the purpose of visiting the cemetery or private burial grounds."

The Common Room / Re: Marrying a cousin
« on: Tuesday 31 July 18 03:57 BST (UK)  »
You might want to take a look at the history and the genealogy of isolated settlements in North America.  You will find that marriage to a first cousin was inevitable in remote communities unless the child of the first generation of settlers abandoned family investment and took  to the road in order to explore opportunity in another community at further remove.

The Lighter Side / Re: King John: illegitimate issue

You are correct. It is one of my all time favourite films :-)

The film was extraordinary both for its screenplay and its acting performances.  However, I am intrigued by the fact that Robert Preston, who brilliantly starred in the film "The Music Man", was the original Henry II when "The Lion in Winter" was produced on Broadway!

Lanarkshire / Glasgow Athenaeum records
« on: Sunday 11 February 18 01:42 GMT (UK)  »
Who would I contact for access to the Glasgow Athenaeum (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) student records.  My grandfather, born 1891 in Glasgow, studied music and dramatic arts at that institution.  He performed with the Pink Dandies company in Australia and New Zealand in the early years of WWI.  After service with the 10th Australian Light Horse in Egypt, he immigrated to New York where he and my grandmother appeared on Broadway.  In 1948 he was a founding member of the Houston Gilbert and Sullivan Society where for many years he served as stage director and comedian.

Stirlingshire / Re: Alexander Rennie in Kilsyth - grave marker

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful reply, Craig.  My cousin and I have debated whether the appellation of "Deacon" for my ancestor was a title from association with the trades of Glasgow.  My best guess is that it derives from close association with the Reverend Minister who might have encouraged Alexander to accept an oath to minor ecclesiastical orders.

I have Elisabethen Tixtorn whose father, Agnaa,  married Agnes Altgelt about 1618 in Siegen, Westfalen, Prussia.  I hope they were not prosecuted for witchcraft.
