Hi Veronica,

Welcome to Rootschat.

I think I've got a gap in my information as I don't have a William as a son of Thomas, it might be that I've forgotten to add him in.  When was he born?

Let me know if there is any information you need.... if I've got it I'm happy to share.

Best wishes,

Nick

Always the way...  ;)

If anyone else has a link, she married Isaac MARKWELL in Stowmarket in 1883.  I've got various bits of information about the Markwell family, including some family photos.

Hi Julie,

Have you got an Emma Jane WELHAM, born 1862 Stowmarket in your tree?  Her father was John WELHAM.

Hi Roy and Helen,

I was wondering if you have anything on Elsie Annie HURLING b. 2Q1893 in Spalding district.  She married Walter CROSBY in 3Q1910, also in Spalding district.  On the 1911 census she was 'Annie'.

I haven't been able to find her on the 1901 census, and don't have her parents names, so haven't found them either.

My interest is on the CROSBY side, but I'd like to find Elsie/Annie and her parents for completeness.

Best wishes,

Nick

Hi Carole,

Unfortunately there was no information - the column was left blank, probably because she was widowed?

From other sources I have the following children:
Gertrude Mary (b.1875)
Edith Emily (b.1877)
Arthur William (b.1879)
Cecil Leo N (b.1888)

Gertrude is on both the 1901 and 1911 (as a 'WALKER')
Edith is possibly on the 1901 as 'PAINTER' and 1911, the spouse of George HARPER
Arthur is missing in 1901 but is on the 1911
Cecil is missing from 1901 & presumed died before 1911.

So Betsey, Arthur and Cecil are the ones missing in 1901, assuming Edith is the 'PAINTER'.

Norfolk / Cecil POINTER/POYNTER - Yarmouth 1901
« on: Saturday 31 July 10 14:04 BST (UK)  »

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to locate someone called Cecil POINTER on the 1901 census - it seems his whole family might be missing.  I'd be interested if anyone has managed to find this family, or are linked to them in any way.

He was born June Q 1888 in Yarmouth district and was living with his widowed mother at 44 St Pauls Terrace, Yarmouth in 1891.  His full name was Cecil Leo N POINTER (or POYNTER) - which you'd have thought would be easy enough to spot. There is a matching death in June Q 1902 in Yarmouth district... so it doesn't look like he died before the 1901 census.

I've tried several census search sites, with various combinations of names, but nothing has worked.  His mother Bessie was still a POINTER in 1911, so I'm not expecting to find him with a step-father's surname (but have searched without surname just in case).

I'm at the point of giving the family up as missing - but thought it would be worth checking with Rootschatters as someone with a fairly unusual name like that shouldn't be able to vanish. ;)

Yup, my head hurts too now.

I guess 'spinster' might have been a mistake by the vicar?  Does the 1861 census give Charlotte's birthplace - are there any baptisms there for a Charlotte around the right time?

Could be worse - she could have been a 'Smith'!

Hi Joanna,

Just a thought, is it possible that Mary Ann NEWSON married a WHATLING who died before she married James TYE?  What was Mary Ann's marital status at the 1855 marriage?  Or is my head hurting too much as well!

Good luck,

Nick

I'd probably guess at Harleston - but you've got a choice of one in Suffolk near Stowmarket and one in Norfolk (on the Suffolk boarder) between Diss and Bungay.
