Completed Census Requests / Re: Advice Please
« on: Friday 11 March 05 16:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Lee,
I'm fairly sure you've found the 'right' Thomas and Matilda.

Darley Green is in the West Midlands, which boarders Staffordshire. It could be near to Bilston.
On the 1901 census, do you think that Chasemoor could be a mis spelling for Chadsmoor? I've not heard of a Chasemoor.
Also, on the 1901 census you say that Thomas gives his place of birth as Dawley, could that not be a mis spell of Darley (as in Darley green), or even the ennumerator could of mis-heard him.

I wouldn't worry too much about the age differences between the census and marriage certificate - apparantly thats quite common ( I have myself had that problem with my ancestors! Makes life very confusing!!).

It sounds to me like you've researched all the possibilites ie other family members living nearby etc, and the fact that there is no Thomas or Matilda living in Staffs in 1901 makes me think that the ones you found in Shropshire are the right ones. (unless of course matilda had died before that?).
Shropshire isn't that far from Staffordshire, either.

Hope this all helps!

The Common Room / Re: Help with name
« on: Friday 11 March 05 14:51 GMT (UK)  »
Looks like it could be Hetty, short for Harriet. I notice her mothers name is Harriet, would make sense for it to be Hetty, but the T's haven't been crossed.
Hope it helps!

Hi.
I don't know if the london census is complete, but i found a William Gore on the 1861 census at www.1837online.com. He was aged 51 living in Bethnal Green. To view the rest of his household will cost 3 units (you can buy 55 units for 5). There was also a Charles Gore aged 18 living in Pancras. Don't know if he's the Charles you're looking for? Was Lydia's name lydia or was it a middle name that she was known by? Maybe thats why you can't find her? (I speak from experience - my grandad was always called Robert until we found his birth certificate and discovered he was actually a Percy!)
Hope you find your ancestors!

Thats a good idea! Never thought of that! Is there a website that has the old papers online? The accident was between 1918 and 1920. I do want to get the death certificate, but don't know if I can do that without a definate death date? Where would I get hold of coroners reports? One of my other ancestors died in Usworth Colliery in 1879, would there have been a newspaper report on that? Sorry for all the questions, but am quite new to all this!

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1841+1851 Bradford census - CROWTHER
« on: Monday 28 February 05 16:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hey, is there anyone who can look up a HENRY CROWTHER in the 1841 and 1851 Bradford censuses for me please?
There is a bit of confusion over Henry's year of birth but it was between 1840 and 1845 in Bradford. His fathers name was RICHARD CROWTHER. Sorry, don't know mothers name (thats really why i want the census info, to get details of his mother and any siblings).
I do know that by the 1871 census, Henry had moved to Durham.
Thanks a lot!

Hey Joe,
Cheers for your help. I did Google and ended up on the newcastle uni page, which showed a pic of the gasworks, which was great. No mention of the accident though. Maybe my relatives were mistaken about that! Do you think maybe the gasworks were known by another name? I was thinking maybe it was owned by a company or similar?

Hi Fluffnco
Thanx for the info, I'll give it a whirl! Just wish my relatives could remember more details!!

Northumberland / Help! Alnwick ancestors.
« on: Saturday 26 February 05 18:44 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me?!! I'm tracing my ancestors, Crowther, and know they lived in the Amble/Alnwick area. Apparantly my GGGranfather worked in Alnwick Gas works, and died as a result of an accident there. But I can't find Alnwick Gas works anywhere! Does anyone know where I can look?
Also one of my great aunts worked in an asylum in Morpeth, and was apparantly killed by an inmate there. Where would I find out any info about this? (i think it might of been in the 1930's) I've done various searches on different search engines, but am hitting my head on a brick wall!!
I'd be very grateful for any help!! Thanx.
