The Common Room / Please help! Missing great aunts.
« on: Saturday 25 June 05 15:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm hoping there is someone out there who can help me!
I'm trying to trace two of my great aunts.

1. Annie McLeod Crowther appears on the 1901 census aged 6 mths old. I found her birth reg for the 4th quarter of 1900. But after that she disappears! I can't find any marriage or death details. My grandad, who was 10 years younger than her can't actually remember having an older sister, so I'm assuming she died young. But why can't i find a death registration for her? I've tried different spellings for Crowther but no luck.

2. Jane Crowther. Now, I don't know much about her other than she was younger than my grandad but older than my great aunt Isabella. That would make her birth between 1911 and Aug/Sept 1912. But i can't find it anywhere. I've tried just searching under surname incase Jane was a middle name that she was known by, but again no luck.

Can anyone help because I seem to be going round in circles trying to sort these two out and now my head hurts!

The family lived in Amble/Alnwick in Northumberland. Fathers name was Henry Crowther and mother was Jane Ann nee McCloud (Mcloud or McLeod).

Thank you!

Hi,
Don't know if this is any use:
Jack Trott born july/aug/sept 1919 fulham 1a pg 372. It has mother's maiden name as Trott, but this could be a mistake? Also found Gracie H E Trott born Jan/feb/mar 1917 Fulham 1a pg 416 also has Trott as mother's maiden name.

Hi
I have just received Henry's death certificate, and it says the inquest took place on November 18th 1879. The coroners name was John Graham.
Don't know if this information would make the newspaper lookup any easier?

Northumberland / Where is Glendale?
« on: Tuesday 14 June 05 21:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Can someone please tell me where Glendale is/was?
I have an ancestor whose possible death was registered in Glendale. The volume number was 10b, which i recognise as the Northumberland area, but where exactly was Glendale? I'm hoping its near Alnwick/Amble!

Cheers

Northumberland / Re: Please Help Looking for Family History Benwell New Castle

Hi!

I would start off looking for Thomas Henry Richards on the 1901 census. As he was born in 1900 you should find him living with his parents, that would give you their names and the names of any older siblings. It would also tell you where they were living and give fathers occupation.
Do you know Henrietta's year of birth? If she was born before 1901 you could look her up on the 1901 census and also get her parents details from that.
That should start you off.
Good luck,
Jacdee

Durham / Death report in newspaper lookup- name and date given
« on: Sunday 12 June 05 15:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Can anybody do a newspaper look up at the local library for me?
Henry Crowther died 15th Nov 1879 due to an accident at Usworth Colliery.
Can anyone look up a report of his death and/or details of an inquest please?
I'm not sure what the local papers of Usworth were of that time, possibly The Northern Echo? (i'm guessing, as it's the only one i've heard of!)

Thank you very much to any one who can spare the time,
Jacdee

Occupation Interests / Re: Boot closer

The Boot Closer could still have worked in a small workshop. I have boot maker ancestors where the father was the boot maker, eldest daughter was the boot binder and young son was a boot closer. It was their own little business where the trade was taught to the children who carried it on upon the death of their parents.
