Has Tony Robinson been done? (I've not seen all the series). Think he'd be quite good.
Ooh, and Vernon Kay! It'd be nice to have some younger generation doing their family history.
And I too think Dawn French would be good.
When does the next series start??

Colud this be them?
RG11, 4287/34 pg 61

3 Carlisle Street, Barrow in furness, Lancashire
John Shilton - 31 - b. Bells Close, Northumberland - Engine Driver
Jane D Shilton - 27 - b. Wigton, Cumberland - Housewife
Robert J Shilton - 5 - b.Jarrow, Durham

I know the surname is completely wrong (not even a misspelling!), but their first names, ages, and John's occupation match what you already knew.

A very strong 'possible' i think!

I've looked, but can't find Henry at all in 1881.
Its a real mystery as to where he and his family have disappeared to  ???
All i can suggest is that you put a post on the census lookup requests board and see if anyone else has better luck.
I'll keep looking, but i'm not hopeful. Sorry  :(

I gave up in the end. I managed to get the search screen up, but then it wouldn't search. And then when it did decide to do a search I couldn't get a results page! But it seems to be working tonight....and so does Yahoo!

Is anyone else having trouble getting onto Ancestry? I seem to just be getting a page of adverts, and when i try to log in i get an error message. I can't get into my Yahoo mail either.
Is it just me or are the sites having probs?
Very frustrating cos i was planning to do loads of searching whilst the footies on!!

I like a challenge! Especially when i need a break from my ancestors!
You said his fathers name was john. Do you know what his mother was called? Was Henry living with both parents in 1871 and did he have any other siblings at that point? It would just give me some more names to search on!

Hi guys
Thanks for all your replies.
I think you are probably all right in the theory that Jane had no option but to put her children into the orphanage.
I have emailed Barnardos, so will have to wait and see if they can help trace any records.
I'm just glad that my grandad and his siblings all managed to stay in contact with each other.
