Durham Completed Look up Requests / Re: Richard Cummin of Witton le Wear Anyone?
« on: Monday 02 February 09 22:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello JR, how are you.  It's amazing how frequently you keep popping up on my tree, but we can't quite get it pinned down can we.  :)

Would your Nathan Parker have been able to be a marriage witness in 1826?  I mean, he wasn't two or anything silly was he?  ;)

Have you got any further with your Hodgsons?  I'm sure the WLW/Wolsingham lot are related but can't prove it!

Cheers,
Brenda

Hello All-
Anyone stumbled over a Richard Cummin/Cummins in their research?  He was baptised in Witton le Wear, Richard Stephenson Cummin on 13 Aug 1804 to Amelia Cummin (single women).  He married Mary Leng or Long (info from Durham Records Office)

"St Mary's Church, Denton.
Richard Cummin of the parish of Haughton le Skerne and Mary Long (Leng) of this Chapelry were married in this Chapel by Banns this Fourteenth day of May in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Six, by me Thos Peacock, Curate. This marriage was solmenized between us Richard Cummin and Mary Leng X her mark. In the presence of Marg Marel(Manel?), Thos Cummin and Nathan Parker. all sign"

After this event I lose him completely!  I'm also not sure of the relationship between the marriage witness, Thomas Cummin and Richard.  Richard also had a brother/half brother Anthony bpt 4 Sep 1808 to Amelia who is still single.  Anthony is my direct line and I'm good with him, but I'd like to trace Richard and his family.

Their mother Amelia, was bpt in Witton le Wear on 7 Aug 1785 to Thomas Cummin and Isabell Hodgson.

If anyone has an unclaimed Richard Cummin please let me know!  ;D

If anyone has access to St George The Martyr's PR I'd be grateful for a lookup of the following baptisms.  Trying to find any info on the parents if possible:

Maria Fuller ch 22 Jan 1797
George Fuller ch 14 Oct 1798
Edward Fuller ch 9 March 1800

Parents were William and Mary Fuller.

Many thanks,
Brenda

Thanks for the info!  I have the documents for all of the stations that were managed or came under Berwick and my chap isn't mentioned in them, only in the main document for Berwick itself so I think there's a good likelihood he was at "head office".  I'll definitely keep digging around, and thanks for the tip re the archivist.

Armed Forces / Dover Casemates History
« on: Thursday 22 January 09 14:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All
I was wondering if anyone knew the history of Dover Casemates, especially with relation to the Coastguard using the facility?  I found a reference to the Coastguard there as early as 1826, my husbands relative was stationed there in 1863 so it was in use by them for quite a time.  I'd be grateful if anyone has any info to share.

Thanks,
Brenda

Berwickshire / Berwick PR's
« on: Wednesday 21 January 09 21:46 GMT (UK)  »
This is a bit of a long shot but nothing ventured etc...

I'm looking for the birth of Edward Clark c1824, born to parents George Clark and Maria Fuller.  George was in the Coastguard Service and according to his records, was stationed at Berwick from 20 November 1820 - 1 December 1824.  He then moved to Staithes in North Yorkshire.  When I found the family on the 1841 census they were in St Just in Cornwall, Edward was listed as 17, but I've never found a birth reference for him on either the IGI or Federation of Family History Societies website, not sure where else to look for this period.  I found his two siblings baptised in Staithes at an Independent Chapel, but not Edward.  His parents were married in Dover in May of 1820.

So long story short, can anyone advise me where to look to find a possible birth in Berwick between the dates given here?  Does anyone have access to the PR's and would a look up be available???

Thanks for any help!

Thanks Rog

That's exactly the kind of info I'm looking for.  I'll do some more digging and have a look at the Military board.

Cheers  :)
