Thanks - very  interesting. This Luke probably is an elder brother  (bap 1 Jan 1762, St Gluvias) of my ancestor, Elizabeth BUNTER (3 Apr 1775, Budock), the two parishes being only just over a mile apart. It's their grandfather, also Luke (c1700) who's untraceable at present.

Many thanks.

The record in question is clearly and fully dated, viz 9 Nov 1715, so the Latin tag seems somewhat superfluous, or am I missing something?

Can anyone please tell me the meaning of

'was buried Anno pred.'?

Thanks for all those details - most helpful.

Possibly the most significant is the appearance of the name Dorcas. It's the first time it's occurred in my tree and surely is of great importance for this couple to have used it for their first daughter. If I'm lucky, it comes from the BUNTER side rather than the TRENEER side.

Thanks again.

I've now extended my search back to 1660 without success.

Thanks.

I have assumed, based on the date of his marriage, that he was born c1700, and I've searched back to 1680. Maybe I need to go back further.

I have a burial in 1735, but this could equally-well be of his son; no indication of age.

Probate was granted in 1748, re Luke BUNTER of St Gluvias, but the documentation was destroyed in WWII.

Luke BUNTER m Jane WILLS in Mylor, Cornwall on 20 Feb 1722.

I have been unable to find his baptism in Cornwall OPC, Findmypast, FreeReg and Family Search, these last 3 on a country-wide basis. Can anyone help, please?

This is getting ridiculous! I'm getting my centuries and characters thoroughly muddled. Forget my previous post. I'll have another look tomorrow.

Stupid, or what? I've just realized that, earlier this evening I had found Luke (junior) in the 1851, living with his mother and described as 'Greenwich Out Pensioner', so it could well be that the 1735 burial was, indeed, of his father as you suggested. (I'm going back to bed, now!)
