That's the description used by FindMyPast. A high proportion of their 'transcriptions' are accompanied by a 'view original' option where the 'original' is a photo of the Parish Register. I guess, therefore, that  when 'view original' is not offered,  the transcription has been made from the PR or from a photo which not available to FindMyPast.

I'd love to, but the original isn't available

Watson: reprimand duly noted; I accept that a man buried in 1683 might have some difficulty writing a will in 1691!

Concerning sharing evidence of his burial in 1694 - I should be delighted to share it with you, if it existed. All I have are the dates given in #6.

I have, however, come across the following transcript:-

14 Aug 1692  burial of Joseph HILL in Bromyard

Unfortunately, no other details and no sight of the original but, surely, our man?

mazi: the reference to his being a reverend is at the tail end of #6.

I hesitate to say this, but the more I look into this 'tree' the more it appears to be a work of fiction.

Watson

Sorry; somehow the two sentences were transposed. I've now re-positioned them

If Joseph HILL really was 'the Reverend', my guess is that he was a graduate of Oxford or Cambridge. I've found, and searched, a list of Oxford graduates without success, but I've failed to find a similar list for Cambridge other than on 'Ancestry'. Can anyone help, please?

In the hope that it might lead me somewhere useful, I've been looking at the Family Tree detailed in Reply #6, particularly:-

Rev'D Joseph HILL (1615 - 1694)

The nearest baptism appears to be 1617 in Devizes

The nearest I can find for his burial is:-

10 Jan 1683  at  Credenhill

which is acceptable for location, but way out for date.

Are there any supportive details out there which I'm missing?

Chempat: I'm happy with the HILL/FOX marriage - time and location are fine and I believe it is the one I want.

Mazi: I've searched out to a radius of 50 miles. There are no baptisms by Joseph & Agatha in that area.

Watson: I've started looking for suspicious gaps in the records; there are none so far

I'm getting desperate. I have searched FindMyPast, FreeReg and familysearch, and there is no record of the baptism of Ann HILL to Joseph & Agatha. Despite what their Wills say, what if Ann was not their natural daughter, but had been adopted? Suppose she was their niece? We already know about an ideal candidate, viz:-

09 Jul 1665  Anne  dr of Richard & Anne HILL bap in Colwall

Could Richard have been Joseph's brother? Joseph & Agatha appear to have been childless for 20 years so may have been very willing to adopt Ann.

Concerning the Family Tree, 'garstonite's' scepticism is justified; I think it's 'Ann HILL' is the one from Blagdon (mother Elizabeth) and not the one I'm seeking!

Any thoughts?
