Family History Beginners Board / Re: Harvey family Epwell
« on: Wednesday 17 April 24 10:54 BST (UK)  »

I visited a distant aunt in Epwell in 1964, Gladys Harvey with my dad Frank Harvey. She was born in 1907 in Epwell.

Is she related to James? My grandad Harry Harvey ( moved to Birmingham to work as a school inspector) how does he fit in? He married Mary(Polly).

Thanks

DAVID CALDWELL Father Hugh.
06/12/1754 BEITH

There are others around that time but no Joseph/Joshua

There are also other David's in Beith 1781/ 1785/ 1788

(the latter two father David could be the one in 1754)?

No record for Joshua/Joseph on SP, Ayrshire or Scotland that I can see. I do note  on Ancestry a number of trees, which record he was born in Beith in 1752 but no evidence of this, you could look at the Kirk Session record there.
On Ancestry there are a few births in England 1740 – 1759, mainly Cheshire, might be worth a look, he was only residing in Beith at the time of marriage.

One baptism in Ayrshire for Mary Boyle, plus the other below, could this be a transcription error?

BOYLE   MARY   DAVID BOYLE   24/02/1751   DAILLY

BOYD   MARY   DAVID BOYD/JANE BOYD    01/01/1758   IRVINE

It looks likely that Daniel was born before 1797 and certainly before 1790 and was married twice. He could have been born in Scotland or Ireland or elsewhere, viewing some of the baptisms on SP (above) below may help?

DANIEL MCKINLAY married AGNES TURNER 26/12/1808 GLASGOW

Baptisms GLASGOW

ELIZABETH 16/04/1821, ISOBELLA 28/03/1823,

MARY 11/05/1826, JANET 5/10/1828

No death record for Agnes but death records at many parishes are limited before Statutory Registration began in 1855.

DANIEL MCKINLAY married ISABELLA MUIRHEAD 13/06/1830 BARONY, Glasgow

Baptisms
OLD MONKLAND OR COATBRIDGE
Daniel about 1832 – no record?
WILLIAM 6/12/1833
PETER 19/04/1840
ISABELLA 8/09/1844

1841 Shettleston, Lanarkshire (Freecen)

Daniel 40 Coal Miner, Isobella 40.

Janet 15 Cotton Power Loom Weaver

Daniel 9, William 6, Peter 1

I do not see the family in 1851?

Hope this helps.

On Scotland's People there were only 9 Church of Scotland's baptisms in Ayrshire, all took place between 1838 & 1854, there were a further 17 elsewhere in Scotland, mainly the central belt. Since Statutory Registration began in 1855 there were 841 registrations in Ayrshire to date.

This on family search. Christening date is not necessarily the DOB, so was he born earlier, note the date of the marriage?.

Richd Bastow Christening  4 December 1720
Totnes, Devon, England, United Kingdom
Parents Christopher Bastow

Richard Bastow
Marriage  27 May 1735

If you know when William was born you may be able to find a census which lists his father. I note that there are some marriages listed for the name Timmins on freereg at St Thomas, not Williams sadly. In the 10 years prior to 1874 I noted two marriages of females with the father William, but one was a Sweeper, the other Labourer.
