Canada Lookup Request / Daniel Graham born 1901
« on: Friday 10 November 17 11:34 GMT (UK)  »
Daniel was born in Glasgow but the family moved to Irvine, Ayrshire before 1911. He married Mary and they had two sons.
I understand they moved to Canada sometime in the 1950/60s.
I wonder if anyone can help confirm the date or location that they moved to?

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Richard Detheridge birth record?
« on: Tuesday 29 August 17 12:23 BST (UK)  »
According to his burial record Richard Detheridge, age: 86 (1728) Burial Date: 28 Aug 1814 St Martin, abode Park St. Birmingham.

How accurate his age was is unclear but I think he first married Mary Smith 10 Sep 1758 Halesowen, Worcestershire.
Children Baptised Halesowen: Sarah 22 Mar 1761 & Rosanna 14 May 1763. Did they then move to Birmingham?

Mary died in Birmingham in 1776, Richard remarried and I have all of the subsequent information but the birth record still eludes me, however I have a suspicion that he was born in Worcestershire where the name Detheridge and its many variations is strong.

Can anyone help?

Lanarkshire / George Graham - Glasgow
« on: Monday 27 February 17 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
I have a marriage record for George Graham who married Elizabeth Flora Cameron Baird
26 Sept 1919, Govan, Glasgow. I have Elizabeth birth plus 1901/1911 censuses.

However George Graham, a dock labourer, who was 25 at the time, eludes me, his parents were William Graham a coppersmith and Mary Jane nee McAuley.
I cannot their marriage record or a birth or census records for George.

I think it may be possible that his Mary Jane died in Plantation, Glasgow in 1896 at the age of 33 but this is not confirmed.

Can anyone help?

Glamorganshire / Robert Borthwick & Mary Anne Price
« on: Sunday 27 November 16 13:22 GMT (UK)  »
Robert Borthwick was born 25/12/1848 Kirkpatrick Juxta, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, he married Mary Ann Price Q4/1879, Brecknock, Breconshire.

They are on the 1881 census – Pantsgallog, Blaenaur Gardens, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan
Robert Borthwicke    Scotland   Shepherd   29      Died Merthyr Tidfil 1930
Mary Anne Borthwicke Wales Breconshire   19      Died Merthyr Tidfil 1931

They had a son Lawrence .T. Borthwicke in 1880, I later traced him in Scotland and have all of his information after 1901. He may have had a sister born in Glamorgan?

I have not been able to find any information of Robert & Mary Anne between 1881 and their death,
can anyone help?

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Key Hill Cemetary, Birmingham
« on: Saturday 18 June 16 10:50 BST (UK)  »
My great x3 grandfather Thomas Clarke was I believe born in Birmingham in 1785, this was established after eliminating the other 11 born around that time.

The death has been another issue but if I could establish his age at burial it might help.

I think a likely burial might be at Key Hill in the 1840s, would the record include the age?

There are also a number of possible burials there for his wife Ann, maybe sometime later, would it follow that she would be buried in the same section in?

If I could resolve this brickwall I then have a clear line of Ancestry in Birmingham back to the 1500s.

Ayrshire / Daniel Stewart marriages
« on: Wednesday 13 April 16 11:20 BST (UK)  »
Daniel Stewart born Sunday 15 September baptised Monday 16 September 1771, at home, Sevenacres, Kilwinning, Ayrshire. Father: John. He was the only birth of that name in Ayrshire between 1700 & 1800 but there were many others born elsewhere in Scotland and beyond.

He seemed to be the one I was looking for, he married Lillias Hamilton 15 Nov 1799 Stewarton, Ayrshire. Daughter Elizabeth Stewart born 21 Sep 1800 Baptised 22 Sep 1800  Irvine, Ayrshire
Father: Daniel Stewart  Mother: Lilias Hamilton. All those names appear in the next generation.

Then like the proverbial bus 3 other possible marriages came along, he might have married all four!

Jean Walker 5 June 1790 Ayr.
Agnes Mun 25 August 1791 St Quivox
Elizabeth Davis 29 August 1795 St Quivox

As far as I can see there were no children's birth's or baptism records but I did find one death in Irvine. 1 April 1792, a child of Daniel Stewart.

Can anyone add anything to the above 3 marriages?

Mayo / Lawless
« on: Tuesday 01 March 16 11:27 GMT (UK)  »
Richard Lawless was probably born in Mayo around 1790, he married Bridget there around 1815.

From what little I know I think Richard may have died in Castlebar about 1840.

Bridget and two of her sons John (1816) & Patrick (1826) moved to Birmingham, England about 1845,
All three are on the 1851/1861 censuses and I have all later information.

Another son Richard may have remained in Mayo, he was born about 1826, he died Q2/1908, Castlebar, Mayo age 82. He may have married Mary Kenny 23 Jul 1865. Son William born 30 Jan 1867.

Can anyone help with more detail on Richard senior and Bridget?

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Death of Thomas Clarke born Birmingham 1785?
« on: Saturday 12 December 15 11:19 GMT (UK)  »

I believe that my great x3 grandfather Thomas Clarke married Ann Reynolds 16 Feb 1812
St Mary, Handsworth. They had 3 boys Samuel 1812 – Joseph 1815 – Henry Thomas 1817.
All born Barr St. Birmingham. Thomas was a Button Burnisher and later, on Samuels second marriage record, in 1856 a Metal Dealer.

I have a great deal of circumstantial evidence to suggest that Thomas Clarke was baptised
St Philip, Birmingham 30 Sep 1785, parents Samuel Clarke & Sarah. Proving it requires some evidence as there were at least 10 others born in Birmingham between 1774 & 1794.

I cannot find Thomas or Ann on the 1841 or 1851 censuses and none of the burials seem to be appropriate, I therefore think they maybe died in Birmingham between 1837 & 1851 but the possibilities are numerous.

Is there any way to establish the age at death in this period without ordering a GRO centificate?

Colin

Occupation Interests / Merchant Seamen Apprenticeship Records
« on: Monday 27 July 15 12:09 BST (UK)  »
Daniel Stewart was born in Irvine, Ayrshire, 20 May 1802, as noted on his Seaman’s Ticket in 1845. Sadly no birth record to confirm this.

The record notes that Daniel sailed from Irvine Harbour, Ayrshire, Scotland (Port Number 56), to various ports in British waters, certainly between 1842 & 1847 and probably from 1829. He married on Arran in 1828 and his children were born in the Irvine harbour area. Daniel died there in 1850.

However he first went to sea as an Apprentice in 1815 and at one time he spent two years in the………what looks like  “American Service”?

Can anyone guide me to where I might locate any apprenticeship records?
