Rena, it is a bit of an epic project, and I sincerely hope it fills the void.

Well THREE moats seems a bit excessive just to be POSH Viktoria.  :D
I suppose they might have been as much about fish, or drainage, as about defences?

And they were indeed posh. VERY County Set, as the reports of the annual hunt do show.

Thank you for those Sandra.  :)

I am tracing the history of someone adopted at birth, and I found a death cert. for Thos RAMSAY died 1907 at Knodishall. Occupation: Farm Bailiff.
He was born in 1824, and married Hannah BAKER 1852.
As at 1851 & 61 he was working at Thistleton Hall, which I have discovered, is a 3 moated, scheduled ancient monument, no less!
That's one for the album.  :)

Their daughter Eliza (Ramsay) WRIGHT was school mistress at the Old School House in Burgh.

Mowsehowse, in case you are unfamiliar with Chelsea records, don't forget to download the next page (the right hand arrow) as that is the back of his record sheet.

 :-* :-* Bless you Andy.
Not only unfamiliar, but blissfully oblivious!
Thank you.

If it's the John Lister born in Chorley, he was a pensioner of 61st Foot (1810-1814) but had also served in the reserve of 48th Regiment.  Pension records show that he died in March 1856.

Thanks so much for all the assistance.
I am going a bit cross eyed trying to help this adoptee gain some biological personal history.

There's a Pension record for a John Lister (born 1767) of "Chawley" Lancashire. Attestation: 1810.
Regiment: 61st Foot.

Excellent.
Thank you Ashtone.

Is it the John Lister in Wigan in the 1851 census, born in Chorley?

Yes, that's him.
I am delighted with that record card. :D
Thank you so much. Case closed, I think.

Not 100% sure; it is a common enough name, but coincidental to find the entry on the census AND the FindMyPast record.

I am guessing in 1851 I could say just about anything without fear of reprisal, especially as he was around 80 years old in 1851.

The records originate from E182 (Deserter Bounty Certificates)

 :o  Oh no!!!
Should I understand he was likely to have been a deserter??

Definitely being dense!!
