Hello,

I'm better known on the Irish board than here but as I have ancestors from Devonshire I thought I'd better look at this board. I hope this link is of interest to some of you.

Hi,

I hope someone out there can help me. I am looking for descendants of Thomas Erskine married Catherine Thompson in Co. Antrim in 1828. They had a family of seven children who were all christened at Ballyeaston,
Co. Antrim

John Erskine born 2nd September 1829
Jane Erskine born 16th May 1830
Thomas Erskine born 29th July 1833
Robert Erskine born 21st January 1836
Janet Erskine (my great grandmother) born 4th December 1838
James Erskine born 22nd September 1845
Alexander Erskine born 1st July 1847

Has anyone information about the ancestors of Thomas Erskine and Catherine Thompson or the descendents of any of their six children.  Many thanks,   Christopher

Donegal / Alexander of Buncrana
« on: Saturday 16 April 05 21:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone know if there were or are still any families by the name of Alexander in the Buncrana area ? It is possible they may have been involved in the coal or timber business. I have observed that many families of this name were connected with these businesses at busy ports in both Britain and Ireland in the 1800s.

1846 Leslie Alexander of Buncrana owned 4,771 acres
1846 Samuel Alexander, flax & tow spinner, owned the Buncrana Mills

The Belfast and Province of Ulster Directory 1852 mentions -
Thomas Alexander of Ahilly, Buncrana was High Sheriff of Co.
Donegal in 1852 - 3.

1876 Co. Donegal Landowners
Leslie Alexander, Buncrana, owned 4,771 acres
Samuel Alexander, Rateen, St Johnstown, owned 22 acres
Right Rev Dr Alexander, The Palace, Derry, owned 2,680 acres
William S. Alexander, Roe Park, Newtownlimavady, owned 504 acres

Thanks

One Name Studies: A to G / Debanke, De Banke and variations
« on: Tuesday 05 April 05 17:07 BST (UK)  »
I am going round in circles trying to get information about maternal ancestors - a family by the name of Debanke. If one more person refers me to Wirksworth Parish Records ........ !

The story very briefly is as follows -
I've been looking at the family of John Debanke and Sarah Bown who married at Matlock, Derbyshire in 1812.
1828 John, Sarah and their family appear in Topsham, Devonshire
1847 Ann De Banke married Thomas Green Phillips on 10th October in Belfast
1848 Catherine de Banke married George Kennedy on 21st April in Ireland (probably Belfast)
Other children of John and Sarah include -
George Bown de Banke
John Peter Bown de Banke
Martha de Banke (Martha was a twin of Catherine)
Simon Higgott Debanke
I would be interested in further information about these members of the family.
I did make contact with one person following a family of the same name in the Oxford / Gloucester area and tried to contact a person who appears to have information about the family in which I am interested but my e-mail was returned.
