Hi brimarge,

The British Library holds copies of the Daily Chronicle from 1872 to May 1930 when it became the News Chronicle following a merger with the Daily News.

This is a photo taken of a day trip of employees of South Hylton Paper Mill. It was taken in 1913. Does anyone know of anyone who worked there at this time or have any information about the trips they may have gone on. There is information on the SHLHS about the Mill but nothing about their employees and their trips.

Hi Mercel,

If local newspapers in the South Hylton area are similar to ones published in Irish county towns they may have carried reports of works outings.

Hi Trevor,

You'd have a better chance if you considered graveyards in the Parish of Kilmacallan.

If anyone has a copy of Brian Mitcvhell's A Guide to Irish Churches and Graveyards they should be able to assist with your query.

This link shows a parade which took place at the Headland in 1907 http://members.lycos.co.uk/fillpoke/historic_hartlepool.htm

It also shows a number of other photos. The person who created the site may be able to assist you.

Ireland / Re: prison records

Hi, my grandfather used to tell me that as a young man (circa 1895 he was goaled in Portlaois prison for being either associated with,or joining the IRA. Is there a way of tracing the prison records. By the way I would like to thank all the people who through their hard work make this site so successful.

I'm not certain that there'll be records ...

In 1881-1882 more than a thousand Irishmen were put in prison without warrant, charge or trial as 'suspects'.

'Internment’ by John McGuffin (1973) www.irishresistancebooks.com/internment/intern3.htm

THe same type of internment probably took place in the later years of the nineteenth century as well.

The Ballina directory for 1824 lists Walsh W. Kelly, King-street under publicans

It makes the reader think the guy's name was Walsh but I wonder if it could have heen Kelly.

Here's the link so that you can have a look www.celticcousins.net/ireland/1824ballina.htm
