Unless they didn't register the births - there are only 2 O'Brien/Dawson registrations showing on GRO online.  Mary Ellen & William.  A lot of the 1851 Liverpool census was water damaged during storage

we have been told William's father was Irish and changed his name to Brown and came to England due to some trouble as he was pro British, but not sure thats 100% true

Doubtful about that - why would his children be O'Brien?

These are all the births in Liverpool between 1843-1845 with mothers maiden name

Can't see the 1871 entry but shown as a widower in 1881.  Who was he married to?  Any children?

Did you check Family Search www.familysearch.org?  Possible for Robert but nothing for Thomas

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPWT-89HT

Are either of them on the 1851 census?

If not - have you checked freebmd to establish their ages at death - 1841 ages were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs. www.freebmd.org.uk

Ages can be checked here using the freebmd reference

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

EDIT

Robert died March qtr 1848 aged 76 - nothing for Thomas

Looks like you would have to view them at the RO so you need to ring them re access

Is this from somebody else's family tree?  If so - have you contacted the tree owner?

There is a tree on Ancestry which only shows one wife

Welcome to Rootschat

You haven't given any details of whereabouts they originated from

When & where did they marry?  Who were their children?

Is this the right marriage?  If so - the 1851 census shows him b Sunderland 1807
