From a pm - mother was Charlotte Fitzgerald.  However - no 1919 marriage for her in Scotland.  There is a marriage in 1919 in Romford on freebmd of Charlotte R Fitzgerald to Reginald W Miller.  Is that her?

Death of Charlotte R Miller in 1954 Middlesex aged 63

Birth in Greenock 1894 of Charlotte Ross Fitzgerald

In 1891 he is with Clifford Chatfield - not on his own. When you look closer at the relationship column on the original entry it does say orphan - but has been transcribed as nephew

So there is no point asking about the one b Blackburn - maybe as well to delete that post to avoid confusion

can I find more

Transcribed birth place   Blackburn, England

Does that birthplace fit your "James Davies"?  If not - there is no point looking for more info.

It's a very common name and without more detailed info you are going to struggle

Perhaps looking at Fold 3 entries may help you

Spent ages trying to find him on the 1871 - Ancestry have him as age 9 - not 2 - & his birthplace is shown as Plumstead not Woolwich

If he was born in Woolwich up to 1868 - his birth should have been registered in either the Greenwich or Woolwich RD's but nothing listed.

Who did he marry & when?  ? Rose

In 1891 he is shown as the nephew of Clifford Chatfield & his wife Annie Priscilla nee Merchant so no obvious Allen connection there
