Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841/51 BROTHERS request
« on: Thursday 04 August 05 22:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi

This may be Edwards GRANDparents marriage.  It's from the BVRI(2).

BROTHERS, Benjamin = Mary KIRKMAN 7 Apr 1779 Cropwell Bishop, Nottinghamshire, England

And this could be Edwards father from the IGI

OCTAVIUS BENJAMIN BROTHERS
Christening 16 DEC 1796 Saint Mary, Nottingham, Nottingham, England
Father BENJAMIN BROTHERS Mother MARY

There are a number of possible siblings for Edward if you do a parent search on the IGI.  This one in particular

FRANCES BROTHERS
Female
Christening 21 SEP 1831 Saint Peter, Nottingham, Nottingham, England
Father BENJAMIN BROTHERS Mother MARY

Hi

I only have the 1851 name index but this looks as though it could be her.  No father in household so he was either deceased or at sea etc
You need somebody with the full 1851 census to look up the reference for you

Piece number 2193/2 folio 98 - all born Much Woolton Lancs

James Barton 5
Mary A 3
Sarah 30 washerwoman

Hi

Sorry - I don't have the 1841 or 1851 census for Manchester.  I think it may be better if you posted a new message headed "1841/51 Manchester lookup" as there are people who have those censuses and may be able to find them for you.

If you don't get any reply, the 1851 is due to go online at Ancestry.com either end of this year or beginning of 2006 so you may find them then.  Good luck

Europe / Re: IRELAND: 1901 Irish Census PLEASE

A copy of his marriage cert will give his age on marriage and his fathers name and occupation.  As he is not on the 1901 UK census he was presumably still in Ireland then.

Having got that info, you can contact the Irish GRO to see if they can trace his birth cert for you

Europe / Re: CROWLEY/CRAWLEY where from here?
« on: Tuesday 02 August 05 00:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Every Patrick Crowley/Crawley with a father Cornelius on the IGI, was born in Ireland.  The same on the BVRI(2) - although there are only 2 entries for that combination.

If you can't find him or his father on the 1861, then I would guess that he was born in Ireland

This is the nearest birth to 1845

Hi

It's entirely possible they may have anglicized their name but I would be doubtful about altering their birth cert.  If their birth cert were from (eg) Poland, it would be written in Polish so would be difficult to alter

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Rosson family

Hi

If she was a genuine widow in 1861, her surname would not have been Rosson - it would have been Bury if she had married him at 16 as she later said.

As Bury was still very much alive in 1861 and still legitimately married she clearly lied for appearances sake.

What was her marital status on her marriage cert in 1877?  In England, it's usual for a widow to remarry using her married name rather than her maiden name.

In Bertha's case, a UK certificate would show her as Bertha Bury widow and then her fathers name.  However, I don't know anything about Australian certificates or their protocol.

It's more than likely that William was William Bury's son, but because Bury was still married, he was registered as Rosson

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1871 Look UP Please for Ebenezer KING
« on: Monday 01 August 05 00:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi

He doesn't appear on any census after 1861.  He either died, emigrated or was a mariner who was always at sea at the time of each census.  He is not on the 1870/1880 US census

The only other Ebenezer King b in the 1850's in Bucks was 1855 Gt Horwood but he was also on the 1861 with different parents
