US Lookup Requests / 1840 & 1850 Census Lookup Please - Columbia County NY
« on: Tuesday 31 October 06 13:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Would be very very grateful if someone could do a US census lookup for me.

Am trying to track down a branch of my ancestors who tradition has it emigrated from England to the US in the early 1800s.  I have traced 1 likely candidate from the 1880 Census and am now trying to link him to other members of the family who came across with him in order to prove I have the right guy.

I've managed to find out that he is listed on the 1840 & 1850 census for Columbia County in NY (Apparantely living in Claverack) and wondered if someone could review the census and tell me if there are other members of his family either living with him or in the area.

The main man is:

Ezra Abel - born 1809 in Bedfordshire England.  He should be married and living with Charlotte by 1850, but I am looking for the following family members:

His father Joseph Abel - DOB unknown but around 1780ish
His mother Mary Abel - born 1786 Bedfordshire, England
His brother William Abel - born 1811 Bedfordshire
His sister Elizabeth Abel - born 1814 Bedfordshire

Thanks very much indeed

Cumberland Lookup Requests / 1841 Lookup Hoodless please?
« on: Saturday 24 June 06 10:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi

still trying to work out my Hoodless / Millican brick wall and would be very grateful if someone could look up the following on the 1841:

John Hoodless - aged c19 born in county.  May be a Blacksmith or apprentice Blacksmith.
Jane Hoodless - his mother - will be 55 or 60
Possibly Thomas Hoodless - looks to be his older brother

plus whatever other family / household they are with

They should be in the Sebergham area although the family seems to have come originally from St Mary's Parish in Carlisle.

Thanks very much

Hi

would be very grateful for a lookup of the following family:

Margaret Fitzgerald (or Fitzgearld) - born abt 1822 Whitehaven. She was an unmarried charwoman. Her children (that I know of that would feature on the 41/51) are Michael and Elizabeth.

Mary Fitzgerald - born abt 1787 in Scotland.

Mary was living with Margaret & the kids on the 1861 in a cellar under Charles St in Whitehaven (!).

I can't trace a baptism for Margaret so am hoping that Mary is with her husband on an earlier census.

Thanks very much

Hi

would be very grateful for an 1851 lookup of the following:

John Hoodless (or Hudless or variant) & Elizabeth his wife.

I have the birth certificate of their son William who was born in Hayton on 8 Oct 1851, but can trace no marriage for them or any clues as to likely places of birth.

By 1861 both John & Elizabeth seem to have gone (possible death for John on FreeBMD for 1854) and William is living in Elswick with a William & Ann Nead.

Thanks very much

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841/51 - Lovegroves in Isleworth
« on: Saturday 20 May 06 10:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi

would be very grateful if someone could see if the following are on the 1841 or 1851 for the Isleworth area.

Lucy Lovegrove - aged 12 to 16
George Lovegrove - her father

Have Lucy's marriage in Isleworth in 1854 (suggesting she is more towards the 16 age in 1851) and am trying to track down her baptism.  Have a couple of potentials and am hoping an 1851/41 will tie it all together.

Thanks in advance

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / 1851 - Lovegroves in Longcot
« on: Tuesday 16 May 06 21:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi

would be very grateful for a lookup of the following:

Lucy Lovegrove - age 12 to 16
George Lovegrove - her father

Have Lucy on the 1861 in Isleworth with what looks like lazy enumerating (whole family is down as Isleworth but no traceable birth / baptism) and have a potential baptism in Longcot in 1835.  Am hoping an 1851 may give extra leads to tie it all together.

thanks very mcuh

Hi

Would be very grateful for an 1851 lookup of the following:

Lucy Lovegrove - aged 12 to 16
George Lovegrove - her father

Have Lucy married in Isleworth on the 1861 and know the marriage took place in 1854 (suggesting she is more towards the 16 years of age in 1851).  Have traced a probable baptism in Cornhill in 1835 from IGI and am hoping the 1851 will tie it all together.

Thanks very much

Armagh / Help please! Novice re Dinnings / Dennings in Tynan
« on: Sunday 23 April 06 11:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi

would be grateful for any advice on how to track down info on the following family:

* Strong Dinning married Margaret Watson - date unknown
* Children believed to be: Robert, Jack, John Henry and (the one I am interested in) William.  William born abt 1792.

What I also know:

* A Strong Dinning is named on the Irish Flax growers list from 1796 - resident in Tynan, Armagh.
* Family are supposed to come from Armagh.
* Strong & Margaret and family emigrate to Bristol abt 1809 - he runs a grocery shop for a few years
* William marries Rachel Granville in 1812 and moves to Wolverhampton - I have line from here.
* Strong & Margaret emigrate to USA in 1827.

Most of my info is from a contact in the US and is unverified.  What I would love to do is place Strong, Margaret & the boys together - ideally by parish records and verifying baptisms and marriages.  I had hoped for emigration lists to do this but have found they did not exist from Ireland to England!

Have to admit that whilst I can find my way around English & Scottish records am flummoxed by Irish.  Have tried using the main sites with search indexed but no luck.  So would be very very grateful for advice on where to go next.

Thanks  Sue
