thanks for all replies....decided to have a closer look at the parish register I'm pretty sure it's something like 'mense decembris' meaning the next marriages took place in December!  My record is for 27 November....so it is just a heading and no big mystery.

Oops, sorry, don't know what happened to this sentence.

The two words are in Latin and can be viewed in the original parish register.  Just can't make them hem out.

Found some RC baptisms that record Elizabeth's maiden name as DOYLE...if they are the right family.

James Francis born 29 Oct 1872 baptised St Anthony's son of William and Elizabeth nee DOYLE
Godparents William and Emelia TURNER

Ann born 26 May 1874 baptised St Anthony's mmn DOYLE. Godparents Patrick DWYER and Mary BOLTON

William born 1 Dec 1878 St Sylverter's mmn DOYLE Godparents Daniel KIRWIN and Helen DOYLE

***Daniel KIRWAN son of Daniel married Ann DOYLE daughter of Loughran at Our Lady of Reconciliation  26 Feb 1878 both living in Summerseat.  Eliza DOYLE was godmother to their daughter Mary Ann in 1881

In 1901 census Michael J is a widower occ Butcher and Mary TIERNEY single age 55  is his housekeeper, both born Ireland.  I think this is his sister Mary.

In 1911 Mary TIERNEY born c1844 is Head living in Poole St with her niece Margaret LANGHORNE and her 2 children...Margaret is Margaret Ellen TIERNEY daughter of Michael J TIERNEY and she  married Thomas B LANGHORNE in 1897.

The good news is Mary TIERNEY gives her place of birth as County Galway so I think it's safe to say that is where Michael J TIERNEY was born.
