Wiltshire Lookup Requests / The Stevens family baptisms 1824 - North Bradley
« on: Tuesday 10 January 23 14:47 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone has access to the actual parish registers for the above (I can't find the actual images online) I should be grateful if they could tell me whether the baptisms in July 1824 of Elizabeth, Jane, Moses, Sarah and William Stevens to Thomas & Susannah Stevens of North Bradley give any ages/birthdates for the individuals - I am assuming that these were not quintuplets!

Thanks, Pheno

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Samuel Rowland b. 1740-1750 Leighton Buzzard
« on: Tuesday 29 November 22 11:46 GMT (UK)  »
Does anybody have access to baptism records covering this period to see if there is an entry for a
Samuel Rowland baptism, probably Leighton Buzzard please.

His age at burial in 1828 Heath & Reach, Bedfordshire gives an age of 87 years indicating a birth around 1741 but I can't spot a suitable baptism in any of the online records.

Any help appreciated,  Pheno

Hi, am just wondering what happened to these two brothers.

They were sons of Thomas Wray b. 1821 & Elizabeth Dobson b. 1822 who both died in the Hull cholera epidemic of 1849 taking one young son with them and leaving their other 4 children Elizabeth, Henry, Thomas & John as orphans.  In both 1851 & 1861 all 4 children have been taken in by other family members.  I am then able to follow both Elizabeth & Thomas throughout the rest of their lives so don't require any info on them thanks.

However, I cannot find Henry after the 1861 census (RG9/3588/53/18) anywhere.

I had thought that after 1861 (RG9/3596/22/8) John may have been taken on as a Royal Naval Apprentice to Thomas Hambling on the Comet in 1863, but the port of registry is Glasgow (according to Ancestry documentation).

I am now chasing up a potential 2-3 cousin match at Ancestry from the US and the only overlap in the right time frame that this person has is a Thomas & Elizabeth Wray b. England as the parents of a John R Wray b. England 1854 from whom he descends. There is a John Richard Wray around but I already have him in my tree and he was born in 1825 in Hull.

As neither the match, nor anyone else who has this John R Wray in their trees (nearly all based in the US and probably copied from one another) knows nothing more about the origin of their John R Wray, other than his parents were Thomas & Elizabeth I wondered whether this might be my missing John Wray.

I can't though find any emigration/immigration record for him (and possibly for Henry too seeing as they both disappear) and wondered if anyone else was able to?

Thanks for any help, Pheno

Dublin / Sarah West c1805 Dublin, Ireland
« on: Friday 26 August 22 09:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi, trying to confirm DNA thruline which hinges on the birth in approx 1805 of Sarah West in Dublin, Ireland.  60 odd ancestry trees all have this birth but I can't actually see any confirmation of this event other than in the 1851 (H107/1723/724/15)  & 1861 census (RG9/874/77/6) her birthplace is given as Ireland although 1841 (HO107/58/5/11) gives birthplace as resident county which is Buckinghamshire.

Sarah West married Henry Hooton June 1827 Ravenstone, Buckinghamshire.

It may be that there are no records but I have been unable to find any evidence that her supposed parents John West & Elizabeth (Lineham?) who both hail from the Stoke Goldington area in Buckinghamshire, England, were in Ireland at this time.

Any help to clarify this would be very helpful please - I do not know my way around Irish records at all.

Thanks, Pheno

The Stay Safe Board / The September Covid Jab
« on: Monday 25 July 22 18:34 BST (UK)  »
What does anybody think about having this jab, to be offered to over 50's and vulnerable, in September.

The problem is that it is the same old vaccine against the original Omicron variant that we have all already had.  That variant isn't circulating any more and there is no vaccine against the new variants yet.

Would you be able to have the orig vaccine in September, and supposing there was a new one developed against the latest variants rapidly developed, that vaccine not too long after - or would one preclude the other.

Probably I would rather waIt for something new and current and not scupper my chances by having the orig again.

Any thoughts/rationalisations.

Hertfordshire / Ernest William Lincoln b. 1859 Hatfield Registration District
« on: Wednesday 11 May 22 16:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to establish a dna link which I think is through this family back to mid 1600's, however I am going round in circles with the above.

Having established his birth, mmn Nobbs/Nobles I am trying to find his parents and the generations further back.  I believe his parents may have been Henry Lincoln and Mary Nobbs/Nobles m. 1858 in Hatfield.  I think Henry died in about 1862 but I cannot find the family in the 1861 census.

Ernest William is the subject of many family trees on Ancestry but pretty much they have all copied each other and don't have much in the way of sources.  Most indicate that Henry's wife is Mary Ann Learwood, which could have been a first wife, yet she doesn't appear to die prior to his 1858 marriage - if indeed, they are the same people.

I think the 1871 census (RG10/1374/96/2) has Ernest William as William, nephew of Head of household William Lincoln & wife Hannah.

And who was Henry's father: again many of the Ancestry trees indicate his name was Joseph but I can't verify this.

It would be very helpful if someone was able to bridge the gap between Ernest William Lincoln 1859 and his grandfather ? Lincoln, via Ernest's father - possibly Henry.

Thanks in advance,  Pheno

Essex / Jabez Corby b. 1830 has disappeared
« on: Wednesday 16 March 22 13:56 GMT (UK)  »
Not to be cconfused with a namesake b. 1867.

I am looking for Jabez, born 1830 Wicken Bonhunt, Essex to George & Elizabeth Corby and living there with them in both the 1841 & 1851 census (HO107; Piece: 1786; Folio: 64; Page: 52 where he is transcribed as Javis).

I cannot find any reference to him after the 1851 census, neither marriage/death nor emigration.

Can anybody offer any sightings please?

Thanks, Pheno

Technical Help / Rootschat+Edge+Win 10 - Problems
« on: Friday 11 February 22 12:19 GMT (UK)  »
For some time now I have had a problem accessing Rootschat using this combination of Edge & Win 10.  Initially the page freezes and takes some time to load and then when I click on a topic to read it I have trouble in getting back to the page of unread posts (usually page not responding although it does after a time).

It is only this combination of factors that causes this problem.  On another machine I use a different browser and a different version of windows and have no problem at all.
