Hello Mike,

Sorry about being puzzled by the switch in name order.

I'm not knocking the fantastic help one gets through rootschat - I would be nowhere without it - I value this forum immensely.

However, I still have not come to terms with how difficult this makes for positive identification and I really do not understand why records aren't correlated at the time of reporting.

Maybe it is not necessary for government purpose.

London and Middlesex / Tracking people returning to Uk from Australia
« on: Tuesday 20 December 11 13:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

We have a family that migrated to Australia - Mum Dad and 3 kids. We have got all the passenger entries etc for this in 1955.
However not settling well they returned to Uk. How do we check these records.  :-\

We believe one married here in Australia befor leaving. The other two went back with parents.
I have looked up NSW gov. recs but there doesn't seem to be anything about people returning to UK or leaving this country.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Essnell      :)

Hi avm228,

Thanks so much for looking . This is pretty likely him as the dates fit. Odd though since it is registered as John C and not Cecil John.

I shall now do more checking. Again working in the dark on what we remember people said. All those contacts are now gone to better places. We were under the impression that Cecil was just a kid must have appeared that way to his older sister.

Cheers and Seasons greetings.
 :)

Hello

Please could some help?

Looking for death record for Cecil John Keeble DOB Sep 1909. [from Free BMD] - Is with parents on 1911 census.

This child  died from injuries in an accident on a footpath. His sister was present and it is believed he was about 6-7 years old. I cannot locate him on free BMD.  I have worked through from 1913 -1918

He is on my husbands side of our family.

Thanks for any info

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to all who have left suggestions on where to look.

I shall follow up and let you know - success or otherwise.

I will contact Keighley library by snail-mail  - it sometimes works better - even if it takes longer.

Cheers

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Re: Info on Abbeysteaad Huts, Over Wyresdale plus..

Hi Barbara and Charlotte,

Thanks Barbara - that proves one thing that some sort of huts existed. the 1881 census info gives the placement of the Abbeystead Huts at Over Wyresdale. Not being from England - I sorted that this was in Lancashire.
Is the Abbeystead resevoir in Lancashire also? It all seems to be very close to the Yorkshire border and Yorkshire Dales.

I believe the resevoir was built to provide water for cotton mills{?} lower down the Wyre and is built at the junction of two rivers. {wyres}  [need to get a handle on the local  wordings].

My g-mother lived in one of these huts with her mother and siblings and several borders 1881.

Now the other two places are over in Yorkshire not that far away - near Hawes -

Mossdale Moor -which is huge - is given as her place of birth and said to be near Hawes.  the father was living at
Quarry Huts also said to be near Hawes. He was a stone mason but at the time he was a railway labourer 1874.

I wonder if the Museum at Hawes has any info.

I shall try to contact them and also check out the news articles.

Hello.

Would like to get info , pictures or whatever on therse three places.

1. Abbeystead Huts, Over Wyresdale.  these were in existence in 1881 . it is a street address from the census of that year. I would like to know what sort of residences these were and for what purpose they were built and when  and what happened to them and when.

2. Any places on Mossdale Moor between 1870 - 1880 where people could have resided- large enough for one or two adults and five children, where a woman could have given birth - it is "near Hawes"  1873/4/5/era

3. "Quarry Hutts"  - " near Hawes".  Would these have anything to do with workers building a railway line.   1873/4/5/ era      :)
