Canada / Alex Bergin Plummer
« on: Friday 24 January 14 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hello again rootschatters !
This is a follow-up message to my posting re Kathleen Plummer née Henderson exactly a year ago !
I discovered that Kathleen & her husband Alec Alfred had two sons - the youngest one was Stephen Fane Plummer who died in 1919 aged 2.  The elder one was the above Alex Bergin Plummer.  He would have been born abt 1916 and I have found him on a few ships' crew lists from 1935-1938.
Then he appears on Voters'Lists ... in 1953 living with his parents and his wife Shirley in Caulfeild, Vancouver, BC, address Howe Lane.  In 1962 Shirley is at the same address by herself and in 1968 I found Alex in Victoria, self-employed.
I can't find his marriage to Shirley, I don't have her maiden name , nor can I find their deaths.
Kathleen & Alec Alfred both died in 1958 and are buried in Capiliano View Cemetery, West Vancouver.  I don't seem to be able to access the site to see if anyone else of the family is there too.  Any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks, Liz

Antrim / John Johnston, Ashley Lodge, Ballymacarrett
« on: Saturday 05 October 13 09:36 BST (UK)  »
<hello everyone,
This is one of my brick walls !  JJ was son of my great x4 grandfather, another John Johnston , ironmonger, of Dublin.  He was born about 1780.  At some stage he moved to the North .  He married  his wife Mary, either in Dublin or the North and had three children, John , Anna & Margaret.
Mary died in 1820 aged 33.  She is buried in Clifton St graveyard but there is no mention of her maiden name - I have never been able to find her marriage....
I think John Johnston may have been involved in the Linen Trade with his cousin Jonathan Sisson but I can find no confirmation of this.   JJ married secondly Agnes Gemmill in Nov 1823 in Rosemary St Presbyterian Church and had three more children.  He died in 1833.
In conclusion, I would very much like to find JJ's first marriage, his wife Mary's maiden name, and perhaps some information about his son John who would have been born abt 1814-1816.
Many thanks in advance, Liz

Antrim / Taggerty/Andrews marriage 1937
« on: Saturday 05 October 13 09:11 BST (UK)  »
Hello to all rootschatters,

I have been sent a photo of the above marriage in Belfast in 1937 - Beaudeau Taggerty (perhaps Taggarty) to Edith Andrews.  Apparently they are distant relations of mine, but for the moment I have no idea where they fit in !!  Especially the first name, Beaudeau, I 've never heard of that before !
If anyone can be of any help at all, I would really appreciate it.
Many thanks, Liz

Mayo / Walter & Michael McGEE
« on: Monday 15 July 13 14:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters !
I am looking for information re the above McGee family.  Walter & Michael were both tried in Castlebar and found guilty of stealing a few heifers in 1847.  They were sent to Dublin to both Mountjoy and Kilmainham prisons, and were then sent to Tasmania (Van Diemens Land) on the ss Blenheim in 1849.  I have a lot of information from there on -
However, I would very much like to know who their parents were and hence be able to trace a step or two further back ...  Walter was probably born about 1825-26 (or possibly 1820).  I realise that I am probably looking for a needle in a haystack, but any help would be very much appreciated.

Armagh / Isaac Johnston, Armagh
« on: Tuesday 09 April 13 08:37 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information re my great grandfather, Isaac Johnston, who lived in Armagh on the Mall and was a carpenter.
According to the 1901 & 1911 census, he was born in Co tyrone. His parents William & Rachel Johnston are both buried in St Mark's graveyard in Armagh, but they must have been living in Co Tyrone when Isaac was born (about 1857). I would like to find out if Isaac had any brothers or sisters... again the 1901 & 1911 census gives a Frederick Ryder, nephew, living with the family.
Isaac married Elizabeth Macauley (Lizzie) in 1883 and her address at the time was "The Palace" Armagh - so I presume this was the Archbishop's palace. Perhaps she was working there. Is there any way of confirming this ?
I am also looking for a Matthew JOhnston, who would be Isaac's grandfather, a farmer in Tynan, Co Armagh.
Last week, Rootschatters were such a great help with my Sgt Holmes query that I thought I would try my luck with another of my "brick walls" - I hate to ask too much, but any advise would be really appreciated.  Many thanks in advance
Liz

Armagh / Quarter Master Sgt William Holmes
« on: Friday 05 April 13 13:35 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone !  I am looking for information about the above William Holmes , who was born in Co Armagh, he married a Jane ?? from Derry about 1865 or so (I haven't found the record) ...  and he died in 1910 and was buried in St Mark's.
His obituary says that he served 21 years with the old 46th 'Cornish One and All'  and served for some time in India.  In 1888 he left for the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers, where he stayed for 20 years before retiring.
In the 1901 census the family is living at Barrack Hill, Armagh and there are two daughters(one married to a Mr Lindsay) and a son George.  William Holmes obit mentions a son, also called William, who didn't attend the funeral, a retired major of the King's Royal Rifles, now serving with a Welsh Territorial Battalion. Also funeral was attended by four of William's sons ...
William's son George married one of my grandmother's sisters and went to America.  I would really like to find out what happened to George's siblings, so any help would be very much appreciated.
Best regards,

Canada / Kathleen Henderson
« on: Friday 18 January 13 18:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to all Rootschatters !  I am researching the above Kathleen Henderson who was born in about 1883 in Montreal , youngest daughter of the Rev William Henderson, Canon of Christ Church Cathedral Montreal.
Kathleen's eldest sister, Letitia married Rev Jervois Newnham, Bishop of Moosonnee and then Bishop of Saskatchewan.  When Letitia died in Nov 1941 , her obituary mentions her brother  and sisters and it would seem that Kathleen married a Mr C.A. Plummer of Vancouver.
I can find no record of the marriage - can anyone help ?
Many thanks in advance, Liz Augereau

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / HATTON & BARNETT
« on: Monday 31 December 12 15:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hello from France to all chatters ! and a Happy New Year !
I am looking for two distant relations who have a connection with the Isle of Wight.

Lois Leslie Smeathman Hatton was born in 1899 and died in 1917 in Ventor - perhaps she was drowned , I have no information at all ... and I was wondering if she was also buried in Ventor.

Mary Florence B. Barnett was born in N. Ireland in about 1877.  Her father was Dr John Milford Barnett.  She died in 4th quarter 1952 and is buried in the Isle of Wight.  I would love to know if she lived and worked there.  I think she is buried somewhere on the island.

I would very much appreciate any help.  Many thanks in advance,
Liz Augereau

Hello to everyone from France !
I am researching one of my English ancestors who was born in England in abt 1867 and it would seem that he joined the US Navy as I have just found that he is buried in Golden Gate Cemetery San Bruno California, he died in 1950.  I didn't know that he had married but his wife Stella G. Johnston is buried in the same grave, she died in 1954.  I would love to find out when and where they married, Stella's maiden name and whether they had any children....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
