Lancashire / Thomas MURRAY, Merchant, Liverpool
« on: Tuesday 05 April 11 10:04 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the above Thomas Murray who was a merchant in Liverpool abt 1840 but also had a connection with Demerara and some kind of plantation.
Thomas was born in Ireland and married an Isabella who was also born in Ireland.  Her maiden name might have been Johnston, but I have no confirmation of that ...  They seem to have two sons, Edward and Thomas.  Edward died in Demerara.  I don't know what happened to Thomas.  They also had several spinster daughters, Letitia, Isabella, Emily, Sophie & Marion.
Thomas died in Winnington, Chester in 1863.  His wife died in 1874.

Thomas may have had a brother, Henry, who was also a merchant of Demerara and Liverpool.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

hello everyone,
Can I ask another question about the Masonic School -  I am looking for my grandfather's sister, Kate Amelia Beamish, who I am told , worked as a Matron at the school around 1920/25 .  Is there any way of checking this ?

Many thanks from France

When I google Matthew Johnston of Tynan, I keep getting Johnston's distillery in Middletown (2 Irish miles from Tynan !!)- created by a Matthew Johnston in 1831.  The date would be right.
Would anyone have any more information ?
Many thanks
Liz

Thanks a million for your help.
I live in France, and when I was home last, I looked in the graveyard in Lislooney Presbyterian but couldn't find any Johnston graves.
I don't quite know where to start trying to find Matthew J's death ....

I am looking for my great x 3 grandfather, Matthew JOHNSTON, who is mentioned on his son William's marriage certificate dated 29th July 1857, in Lislooney Presbyterian Meeting House.
Matthew Johnston was a farmer , with the address "Parish of Tynan".

I know that his son William married Rachel Wright.
William & Rachel are both buried in St Mark's graveyard, Armagh.

In turn, they had a son, my great grandfather, Isaac JOhnston, who lived on the Mall in Armagh.  He was a carpenter and a carriage builder apparently.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
