I asked the question because of the date you gave on your post.

This is another I am trying to sort .--Thomas Pilkington b.1870 in Tarbock, I am aware of his ancestry, but nothing else afterhis marriage to Anne Smith c.1862

Cheadle Royal is a mental hospital all the years of its existence. They may be prepared to send details to the closest living descendant of the lady. There is no guarantee of this.

Do you have her in other censuses?

I would also suggest you need the marriage certificate to check that you have the correct married name for the lady.

Are you sure of the marriage date? Also do you have one of the children's birth certificates to give you Thomas' wife's maiden name?

In which area do you think they may have married?

Do you have one of the children's birth certificates? That would give you the mother's maiden name

www.lancashirebmd.org.uk may help or www.freebmd.org.uk

You may find that the inquest on your uncle's death was reported in the local paper. I'm sorry but I don't know which it would be. If you have the death date it would make searching the local paper easier. To see if the story is perhaps true you would need to get your uncle's death certificate to get his date of death. The certificate would also give the date of of the inquest.

Sorry didn't read it properly!

However I would think the inquest for your date may well have been reported in the paper.

It would only be possible for someone to look at the church marriage register if the church is known and if the marriage register is lodged in the Record Office.

If the entry is Registrar attended or Registry Office on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk unless you know if it was at a church and which church that is I'm afraid the only way to go is to buy the certificate.

The local paper would be the Ormskirk Advertiser. I believe it's on film in Ormskirk Library.

Skelmersdale library may also have it and other information on the disaster. It might be worth contacting them.
