The Common Room / Death Registration
« on: Wednesday 01 June 22 11:04 BST (UK)  »
My understanding is that a death has to be registered in the place where it occurs. Am I correct?

I ask because Ada Binnersley (I don't have the death Cert.) is reported, in the Lancashire Daily Post, as having had a seizure in Lord Street, Southport on 25th July 1934 and taken to hospital by ambulance. Ada lived in Stockport and her death was registered there. She was buried close to the family home on 31st July 1934.

I'm wondering whether it was her or simply her body which travelled back home?

The Common Room / Ancestry Messaging?
« on: Thursday 10 March 22 14:35 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have the slightest idea what's going on with the Ancestry Messaging system?

All I get is that it's unavailable at the moment, please try later. How much later - in an hour - a week - next year - after WW3? It's been like this for a week or more.

Australia / Laurence Tomlinson - Brisbane?
« on: Wednesday 23 February 22 15:16 GMT (UK)  »
Laurence - b. 29 Nov 1921 - emigrated from the UK to Australia circa. 1960 with his wife Living and children (a boy and a girl who I assume are still alive) - what happened to him?

From Electoral Register information, it looks like he was living alone in 1968, 1972, 1977 and 1980 (Scarborough & Redcliffe) so Living must have either died or they may have been living apart.

All family correspondence ceased getting on for 20 years ago and his last known address was 51 Sutton Street, Redcliffe - confirmed by the Elec. Reg. - and since re-developed.

Answers on a postcard ........

Thanks
R

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Impossible???
« on: Tuesday 04 January 22 14:34 GMT (UK)  »
The image is a margin note from a 1940 US Census sheet. This one - https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/2442/images/M-T0627-02285-00598?usePUB=true&usePUBJs=true&pId=75782497

I'm interested in line 17. Does anyone have the slightest idea? Is it even relevant? The previous sheet has more extensive notes. I've enhanced it to within an inch of it's life!

Cheshire / Cheshire School Records on Find My Past?
« on: Saturday 11 December 21 13:12 GMT (UK)  »
A couple of weeks ago I downloaded a couple of Cheshire School Record images from FindMyPast.

I checked again yesterday/today but all I get is the transcripts - there seems to be no way to access the images themselves.

Any ideas?

Cheshire / Late Baptisms - St Thomas, Norbury
« on: Thursday 04 November 21 13:57 GMT (UK)  »
My impression has always been that, during the 19C, children were generally baptised at an early age.

The vicar of St Thomas, Norbury (Hazel Grove) has conveniently added the age of those baptised and it is noteworthy that the early baptism convention was not being followed in the first half of 1977. There are a few youngsters but most are teenagers and some are into their later years - 40s, 50s and one even 61.

Any ideas? This page is typical - https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record/browse?id=gbprs%2fchs%2f4202567%2f00452

The Common Room / The 1939 - Column 5? Completed thanks
« on: Tuesday 17 August 21 15:14 BST (UK)  »
S'pose I should know this but I don't. Can somebody explain the meaning of O, V, S, P or I in the 5th column of the 1939 returns means, please?

I don't think the column is generally completed but I have somebody in a sanitorium and the majority are "P" - who I assume are patients  - and those who I assume are staff seem to be "N" (??!!), "S", "O", or "V". There are numumerous, so called, "Mental Defectives" in the next property, a mental home marked "I" so I assume that mens "Imbicile".

Thanks
