England / Help - Scenic/Theatre Artists in 1840's
« on: Wednesday 14 September 11 12:56 BST (UK)  »
I am at a dead end searching for my husbands GGGrandfather William Pitt. He came to Australia in 1853 (from Sunderland, Durham) and became a very successful scenic artist/painter in Melbourne. What little is known of him prior to Aust says that he worked at the Lyceum in London and was the son of a successful scenic artist. My dilemma is that I don't know where he was born (in 1820), who his parents were and can't find him anywhere in 1841 or 1851. I am not aware of any marriage before he left either. I am hoping I can track him through the theatre world somehow. Gale has some newspaper references (on theatre ads) for scenery painted by W Pitt in the right time frame, but from there I am totally stumped!

Any help, suggestions or miracles are gratefully accepted.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Completed - Coroners Report - Lookup please.
« on: Wednesday 14 September 11 08:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi All, I am trying to find the coroners report for the death of my GGGrandfather Thomas Puplett. His death certificate says that he was found drowned near Falcon Docks. "Certificate received from Geo Percival Wyatt, Coroner for Surrey, Inquest held 29th April 1896". I have been unable to find even a newspaper reference and would love to know what the report says.
Thanks,
Jo

Australia Lookups completed / Completed - look up please - marriage in Tasmania
« on: Wednesday 14 September 11 05:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am hoping someone can help me find a marriage for Alexander Alexander & Mabel Wilhelmina Hill (Woodbry). They were married sometime between 1914 & 1921, probably in the New Norfolk area. I know Alexander died in 1934 and his age gives a DOB of around 1875. I know nothing else about him and hope that the marriage might have some family details. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
Regards,
Jo

Armed Forces / HMS Vernon records - Completed
« on: Monday 12 September 11 04:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  I have an elusive relative that seems to have used several aliases over the years. I am trying to find him in 1881 (using a very slow process of elimination). One possibility is Henry Leach b1860 Horndean Hampshire. Captains servant on HMS Vernon. Is there anywhere that I could  find out some more to rule him in/out of my possibilities? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Another lady I would like to place as a GGGrandmother.  I am wondering if these are likely to be the same person. The person I think they are was born in 1852, died in 1926. I have previously posted the first photo and was kindly given the date of 1905 +/- 2 years by the postcard back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Jo McDonald
