Sussex Lookup Requests / Marriage Lookup- Ringmer 1823
« on: Thursday 16 December 10 03:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am hoping someone could look up the marriage of Ann Jenner & Samuel Hudson on the 28 April, 1823 in Ringmer. This is all that I have from the IGI Batch Number M148332 Parish registers and poor law records for Ringmer, 1605-1881 Church of England. Parish Church of Ringmer (Sussex). I am hoping that I can find some information on the original regarding Ann's parentage?
Thank you, Jo

Sussex / Boy age 9 dies of gunshot!
« on: Tuesday 14 December 10 03:26 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find any information on the circumstances regarding the death of Edmund Hudson. He died on the 12th of April, 1838, age 9 years, in Little Horsted. His death is listed as by a “gunshot wound”. His father Samuel Hudson was a gardener living in the gardeners lodge at the time. I live in Australia and I have tried looking through the newspaper articles that are online and have found no mention of this event. I am hoping that someone may be able to look up the newspapers in the area and find something for me. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.  Smiley
Many thanks, Jo

Hi All,  I am hoping you can help me with, or point me in the right direction. The will is for Thomas Puplett. B1809 in London to Thomas Puplett (Lighterman) and Barbara Dunkes. The only other record I have for Thomas is a copy of his will from the National Archives that states that he was a Quartermaster on Her Majesty’s Steamer Ship the Phoenix. It was written at the Royal Naval Hospital in Malta and proved in London in November 1842. I am unable to fully decipher all of the will, only that his mother Barbara (Richardson, as she had remarried) was the executrix. I have been delighted at the quick response and excellent help offered by my last Thomas will and look forward to any response.
Regards, Jo :)
Also, where would I lokk for help on both the Phoenix and Thomas's military history? Although I can find references to the Phoenix, I am unable to pinpoint what it was doing in 1841/42, what troops were on board and why? So any ideas that you may have on where to look or who to contact would be great.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help with reading a will please - Completed
« on: Monday 22 November 10 02:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am posting a will that I am fascinated with as the underlying love story seems to be incredibly sad. The will is for a Thomas Poplett, Captain on half pay, from Hampton Court. He was married to Louisa Augusta Bayly (a very blue blood lady) but remained in love with a Miss Penelope ???
His will (which I can only partly decipher) starts by requesting money be put aside to build a vault for himself and his “beloved friend Miss Penelope ??” and that “we have tenderly and honourably loved each other from a young age” “and should have been married had not we been separated by foreign and distant settlement…duties…misinformation led me to believe that she was dead. I married my present amiable and virtuous wife and have faithfully done my duty towards her..” Any way, he goes on to leave both Penelope? And Augusta as his executors! What an incredibly sad, moving and fascinating love story. But unfortunately I can only partly decipher the handwriting, just enough to pick up the gist, but not the details. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Jo

Hi, I would love to know if Samuel Hudson (b 1801), a gardener, his wife Ann Jenner (b 1801) and their children, Henry, William, Alfred & Edmund were listed in the 1831 census and what information is provided therein. Also looking for Obadiah (b1766) & Charlotte Hudson (1772). Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
