The Common Room / Sampson Oastler: Does he belong to anyone?
« on: Tuesday 08 August 06 08:46 BST (UK)  »
A rootschatter most kindly took a whole load of photos for me the other day, while she was on a day trip to Kirkby Wiske, somewhere in the sticks in North Yorkshire. Or thereabouts.

Anyway, she took a photo of this headstone, recognising the name ,and thinking it was one of mine.

Unfortunately it isn't, but we agreed I should post it here so that the true owner can come forward and claim him.

No rewards except for the information on the stone, and a couple of other piccies to go with it.

Regards,

D

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Church in Nun Monkton: CROMPTON
« on: Thursday 03 August 06 13:13 BST (UK)  »
Gilbert Crompton and his wife Elizabeth (born Johnson) moved from York to Nun Monkton about 1800. Their first 3 children were baptised in York, the last son (William Joshua) was baptised in Nun Monkton on 20th December 1806.

Gilbert would have been 51 at the time of the baptism, Elizabeth 46 (so not bad going really).

Anyway, I reckon that they would not have moved house after that, and therefore probably spent the rest of their lives in Nun Monkton.

It anyone happens to be in the area, could I possibly ask for a photo of the grave? I'm afraid I haven't yet been able to determine when Gilbert and Elizabeth died.

Many thanks in advance

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Chesterfield Cemetery
« on: Thursday 03 August 06 13:05 BST (UK)  »
Gilbert Crompton (1786-1844) died at his residence in Holywell Street, Chesterfield in 1844. I have confirmation that he is buried inside the Parish Church itself, due to his standing within the community. He was a magistrate, JP and twice Mayor of Chesterfield.

His wife, Deborah died in 1879 and I assume would be buried with him.

Could anyone who lives near Chesterfield possibly pop into the Church and take a photo of the memorial stone for the MI?

Thanks

Could someone please check out one or both of the above census for:

Isabella Arkwright, b 1855 in The Lilies, Derbyshire, and
Charles Evelyn Arkwright, b 1847, Leominster.
(husband and wife)

I do not know where they are likely to be, nor whether they have any children. In 1881 they are living with her father in Derby.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / 1851 / 1861 census: BROMEHEAD
« on: Friday 14 July 06 10:42 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for a Deborah Bromehead, married to a Rev Alexander Bromehead.

She was born in 1817 in Chesterfield, they married in Belper, Derbys. and in 1881 Deborah was widowed, living in New Square, Chesterfield.

I'm hence assuming that she would also be in Derbyshire in 51 and 61. I want to find out whether they had any children.
