Family History Beginners Board / Frances Middleton
« on: Wednesday 26 January 22 12:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hello  I have a gap of a few years for Frances Middleton b 30th January 1897 Wolverhampton  parents:  Charles Henry Middleton and Eliza Jane Kenning.  Siblings:  William Henry, Clara and George.  They lived in Tredegar Wales and I've found all living in the Workhouse in 1908 but the children were moved to the 'Cottage Homes' in 1911.  I have Bedwellty Union records for Frances and siblings but after 1912 there is no sign of Frances  I believe she may have been in Hackney, where she had her son Charles in 1925 but that's not definite.  She died in Southend on sea in 1987.  Can anyone help to fill in the missing years?  Thank you

Thanks Shanreagh for your reply. I was unsure about who the Oddfellows bought the land from as I really don't know much about this at all.  Would the Tithe Apportionment have been given to them or did they buy land with the money from the society?
Thanks for the link, it should help a lot.
Regards
Sharon

Family History Beginners Board / Unknown Landowner
« on: Sunday 26 December 21 19:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello  I'm trying to find who owned a piece of land in the pre 1900 or early 1900.
Town: Shipston-on-stour
Address:  London Road (west) known earlier as Oxford Road separated by a lane to Furze Hill Nurseries, shown on old maps of Shipston
The land was rented to Edwin Barnes in 1924 and his rent was paid to Oddfellows Society in Shipston.
I can't find any named members of this group.
Pre 1900 Possible owner John Henry Clark who owned land in Shipston and perhaps along the London Road
Any help would be much appreciated

Thank you for your replies
I think this is what I've been looking for:
I already have John Allan 1834-1881  Wife Cathrine Cowan 1834-1887 (my initial post)
Death record shows his mother's maiden name as Davidson (from Scotland's People)
I now have both his parents :  John Allan and Eliza Jane Davidson
Any further information on the parents would be very helpful.  Thank you

Thanks KG.  Joseph's birth is consistent with the name and address of his parents when they got married.  His occupation on the marriage record states he was a weaver, as was his father before him.  His death cert shows he was a miner. Could he have left Ireland to work in Scotland as a miner?  I can't find any record of when he left Ireland for Scotland.  His mother is named on his death certificate, so I'm hoping that this is the same John Allan that I'm looking for and I can add both parents to the tree.

Hello
I'm not having much luck finding the parents  of John Allan 1834-1881  Born in Drumadonnell Bandbridge, Down, Ireland and died in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland  (a miner killed by falling stones from a roof)  He married Cathrine Cowan and had 7 children, 5 of which were born in  Ireland.  Any help would be appreciated.
