Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Re: David McKay
« on: Monday 07 February 11 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
Carole,
Do not have any certificates etc.

Further information i have been able to obtain.

The spelling is debatable as I have seen a cutting of a photograph of a shopfront in Urquhart St with David Mackay above noting two girls in the foreground Mary (Polly) and Adeline (Daughters).

Mckay has definitely been used since. David (Snr) wife not known. Family David, Lizzie Jane(died young) Adeline, Mary aka Polly, Margaret, Archie and George. (George was said to have been a POW in WW1 shot trying to escape)

Superannuated probably means that he was retired, I believe.

Yes retired on a pension from the Board of Works

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: round ings outlane west yorkshire

Try looking here:

http://lbonline.english-heritage.org.uk/SearchResultsForm.aspx

Round Ings appears to be a road rather than a property. Do you know the original name of the property you want to find out about? Maybe consult the deeds, or try the planning department. Somewhere there is a website with photographs of listed buildings - try googling for it.

Anne

There was a Hall Ings in Bradford I remember. i think it is a Yorkshire name for something (an area or yard or pond)

Cork / Re: Playfairs of Ballybrack/Glenville 1860/70

Jim,

Perhaps Playfairs father was in the British Army stationed at Victoria Barracks in Cork?

Also I seem to remember the film "The Quiet Man"  (John Wayne) Wasn't the local Church of Ireland Minister not Mr Playfair?
