Hi
Sorry if this is a bit long winded , but I'm getting confused.
I have a birth cert - William Albert Webb b22/10/1884, 4 Pump Court,St Augustine Bristol - parents Frederick Webb & Caroline Cox
Marriage cert - Frederick Webb, 23, & Caroline Cox,21 married 13/8/1882 Register Office Bristol , witnesses John Chapman & Margaret Snooks. Fredericks father was not named. The Cox family has been traced.
First problem is I cant find this family on the 1891 or 1901 census,.The nearest was in 1891 where there is a Frederick 33, wife Catherine 25, Fred 11, William 9 Sarah Ann 2 at 2 Great Pump Court. Is the name Catherine a mistake?
I had also been unable to find Frederick before his marriage, but working on the witness Margaret Snooks, I found a Margaret Webb married William Snook 22/4/1867 at St Georges Brandon Hill, both full age. Her father was James Webb.
I traced Margaret Webb aged 12, with parents James & Sarah in 1861, which amongst other siblings had a brother Frederick aged 3 & sister Sarah Ann 23 and Jane 4. I now have this family on all census 1841-1891 where mother Sarah Webb is living with Margaret & William Snook in St Peters Clifton. I assume father James had died.
Thinking that this was my Frederick, I started looking for baptisms to see if I could find Frederick with parents James & Sarah. The only one I found was 20/2/1859 St Philip & Jacob, Bristol, on same day there was a Jane daughter of James & Sarah aged 1 month & next line Frederick son of Frederick & Jane, aged 3 weeks both living Bread St.
I have bought a birth cert for Frederick son of Sarah, no father. He was born 7 Pump Court , Limekiln Lane on 28/1/1859, which ties up with the age of the baptism, but parents name are totally wrong? Limekiln Close & Pump Court match with most of the census entries.
I am now thinking Frederick is possibly the son of the James & Sarah's daughter Sarah A and not James & Sarah
Any ideas welcome.
Sorry its so long
