Thank you Hallmark.

I was wondering what you do for an index of civil registrations south of the border. I have been concentrating on the families of my Northern Ireland paternal grandfather for the last few years and have been using the GRO (and PRONI online records) but am not familiar with what equivalents are available for the south.

I shall keep your advice in mind for when I do turn back to the extended Livingston family again for a more comprehensive look. The Davis enquiry made me look at my Livingston files again and realise my written version needed updating so I have taken time out from my other research for a quick update of my gt grandfathers siblings.

Cheers

Hi Gaffy,

Thank you so much. Perhaps John was the husband of Catherine who was a widow in Larkhill in 1901, though she was only 55. Still that is enough for me to tidy up the annoying loose end.

I was just filling in some details on the family of James who was my gt grandfather's brother.

Cheers

Is anyone researching the name Lindsay in Sligo?

I am curious about Olivia Agnes Lindsay who married James Livingstone of Gortakeeran on 28 Feb 1893. Marriage registered in Dromore West (as Olive Lindsey). I was wondering if Olivia belonged to the Lindsay family of Larkhill Beltra, Ballysadare West. Robert Lindsay of Larkhill was 80 in 1901.

Would Dromore West be a bit far away to register the marriage?

I am researching the Livingston family and James' daughter Isabella Livingstone (from his first marriage) married John Lindsay of Larkhill, son of Robert. So I just want to tidy up a loose end if anyone can tell me if Olivia was perhaps John Lindsay's sister.

Cheers

Thank you Brian for replying.

I did think about purchasing an external CD drive when I first bought the Mc but decided to see how much I could download direct before I bothered. I expected more and more  software would become available as downloads.

It was months later that  I tried to get the downloadable FTM and as I wasn't actively using the FTM, I just let it slide. I didn't know Ancestry were about to stop selling FTM. Which they have now done.

I have only recently started updating my Word files again and that is why I now miss being able to insert updated mini charts.

I did find the share button on FTM 2012 but could not see how to get even a 3 generation descendant chart onto one page. I tried my maternal grandfather's family and he was the 5th child of 9 but even he didn't make it onto the first  page. I don't seem to have as many options to customise the chart that I used to have in the 2005 version.

Cheers

I have since been reading the Ancestry Blog and see  from peoples responses that perhaps I could still make the charts I want in FTM 2012 (which is a feature most people seem to want) . Also according to their blog update Ancestry  are "exploring" adding some of the report features into Ancestry

When I looked some time ago at my FTM2012 I saw how you can create and print the charts but not how you can export them as an image/screenshot. Have I missed something?

I also noticed that before it closed sales, I might have been able to purchase a downloadable version for the Mac from Ancestry. Too late now though. I probably previoulsy  tried to purchase the downloadable version before it became available in Australia. When I enquired at Ancestry AU they did not have a downloadable version.

Hi Mrs Griff

Sounds like the other replies have covered what you need but I also wondered if you just had one or two too many people now to fit into A4.

Back when I used 2005 I did have to change font sizes and box sizes  etc to get some trees to print on A4 though I never tried 7 generations. I assume you would have to leave out siblings to do that.

Technical Help / FamilyTreemaker

Hi

I used FamilyTreemaker long before I put my tree on Ancestry (from mid 90s or even earlier maybe) and now I wonder what I can use in its place to sync with Ancestry or whatever the options are going to be to download trees.

I still have a 2012 version on a PC that I can use to sync my current tree but I don't use the PC any more as I switched to Mac a couple of years ago. I was unable to download an electronic version for Mac from Ancestry (presumably because I did not have a US address and Ancestry Australia only sold the CD-Rom version which is not much use if you don't have a CD drive) so have not sync-ed to the Mac or at all for quite a while.

What I want to be able to do is something I used to be able to do from older versions of FTM and that was create a limited descendant tree using just a few generations which I could then export as an image to a word document. So what I would like is software that is very good at creating charts and preferably that I can sync with Ancestry then generate custom made mini trees to illustrate my text documents.

What I do not want to have to do is start a new tree from scratch to create a new database. I have several thousand in each of my maternal and paternal trees.

I would be interested to hear any suggestions.

Thank you

Linda.

Another Galt to add to the Doagh family.

John Galt of Doagh who died 23 Feb 1860 also names his sister Mary Rice and leaves a sum of money for her via his brother Alexander Galt, grocer of Doagh. The bulk of his estate however goes to Alexander's son William. Alexander is the executor of this will.

So this brings both Alexander Gault of Doagh b 1805 and John who died 1860 into the family of James Gault/Galt of Doagh, father of Margaret, James and Mary as already listed by MFGilbert.

It also is interesting that Alexander Gault of Doagh was a grocer and his wife's sister Mary Alexander nee Murdoch lived in Ballymather. Maybe some connection to Samuel Galt b c1809 grocer of Ballymather.

Cheers

I did have a look in the Belfast Newsletter for the 1831 marriage but did not see anything. However I am not the best with Newspaper archives. There is something called Papers Past that you might be able to try.
