Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Tippins
« on: Saturday 13 June 09 18:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can any one help me find a few people, who I think may have emigrated in the 1880's. They were three brothers, who were all born in Herefordshire. I know (through gooling) that one of them went to Canada, but do not know where to start for emigration records for this time. The people I am intrested in are;

William Tippins
Born 1844 at Lyonshall, Herefordshire. On the 1871 census, he is living with his wife Mary Ann (born 1848, Morville, Salop), and his three children, William George F (born 1873 - Birmingham, Warwick), Mary Ann (1875 - Stoke on Trent, Stafford), and Frank Henry (born 1879 - Stoke-on-Trent). Thanks to google, I have found an obituary for Mary Ann from a paper in Ontario, Canada.

Mark Henry Tippins
Born 1855 at Kimbolton, Herefordshire. On the 1871 census, he is living with his brother William. There is a marriage for him on the GRO, which happened in 1885 at Stoke-on-Trent. Then there is no trace of him. I have found a tree on the net that says he went to Victoria, Australia - but I would like to check this before I add it to me tree.

Luke Ricketts Tippins
Born in 1859 at Kimbolton. He is on the 1881 census, at Westerham, Kent. I have found no trace of him after the census. No idea where he could have moved to, if he left the country at all.

Any help finding information on these would be very much appreciated. I have no idea where to look for information about these three.

Thanks,
Tippin

Surrey / Harry Wort & Rhoda ?
« on: Wednesday 10 June 09 13:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have just searched the 1911 census, and believe that I may have found my 2nd great Aunt, Rhoda Annie Tippin, who married a Harry Wort. The problem is, I can not find a marriage for the two on the GRO, and so can not confirm that the couple on the 11 census are related.

The family are living in Croydon, and say they have been married for 8 years. I have searched for Henry/Harry Wort between Dec 1902 - Jun 1904, but have had no look finding the marriage.

Can anyone offer any sugestions as to what the next best thing would be to try?

Thanks,
Tippin

Hi,

Can any one help me find a couple of families in the 1851 Census for Shropshire. They are;

Elizabeth Heaford - b. 1784 - Dawley, SAL
Hierom Heaford - b. 1821
Jonathan Heaford - b. 1824
Henry Heaford - b. 1827

John Morgan - b. 1817 - Broseley, SAL - Tea Dealer
Hannah Morgan - b. 1819 - Madeley, SAL

Both families should be living in Madeley. All information above is taken from other census returns, so should match up!

Hi,

Can any one help me find Elizabeth Tippins on the 1851 census for Staunton-upon-Arrow.

She was born around 1779, outside of Herefordshire.
Her husband had died in 1849, so she will be a widow. She may be living with either her son George Tippins, or her daughter Ann, who may have married before 1851.

Thanks in advance,
Tippin

Hi,

Can any one help me find Thomas Williams on the 1851 census. I expect him to be living at Bronington.

I have him on the 1841 Census at Bronington. He was born around 1771, in Flintshire, and was a Agricultural Labourer.

Staffordshire / Newspapers
« on: Tuesday 07 April 09 18:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have found that my 2nd Great Grandfather came up before the courts in Staffordshire. Although I have been able to view the records for the Quarter Sessions, there was times he was up before both the Petty Sessions, and Staffordshire Assizes. I was told at Stafford R/O that these records have not survived.

But I was thinking, would there be coverage of these in the local newspapers? And if there was, 1) where can I find them & 2) can I view them online?

The crimes were commited between 1870-1890, and he lived in Burton-upon-Trent. He was of course tried at Stafford for both the  Quarter's & Assizes. Thanks.

The Common Room / Moving in 1700's
« on: Thursday 27 November 08 14:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

As my research has mainly been post-1841, I need some help trying to tace an ancester in the mid 1700's.

I have found his marriage on the IGI, and also have is burial record thanks to the NBI, but I do not know where he came from.

The burial sugest's that he was born in 1766. There is one entry on the IGI for this time, but I can not prove it is him. What records may still exist that will allow me to descover where he was originaly from?

Just for the record as well, his name was John Wyatt. He married and died in Uttoxeter, Staffs, and was a greengrocer, so proberbly a middle-class man (not rich enough to give relief, but also not poor enough to recieve it). The possible christening on the IGI is in Weeford, Staffs.

Staffordshire / Talbot Inn, Market Street, Hanley
« on: Sunday 12 October 08 17:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I was wondering if any one knows anything about the Talbot Inn on Market Street in Hanley. My ancester ran the inn from at least the mid 1820's until his death in 1841.

I have had a look on a few map sites, such as multimap, but can not find a Market Street in Hanley. Does any one know if it has been renaimed, or when the street was destroyed, proberbly along with the inn.

I have managed to find it on two census records (1841 and 1851) so far, and a handful of trade directories. I am realy intrested in finding information, and if it is still standing or not.

Thanks,
Tippin
