Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Russells from Goudhurst Kent
« on: Saturday 04 June 11 13:00 BST (UK)  »
Hello Sue

Either it's a coincidence or you are the same person I have found this marriage for recently re Richard Russell from Goudhurst.

Richard Russell married Elizabeth MOFFEE, a minor, at St Leonard's Church, Deal on 14/12/1816. Both are listed as Of This Parish (so must have stayed in Deal the required time to marry here) and Elizabeth was a minor, i.e under 12, and was marrying with the consent of her Father, William MORFEE, a Labourer.

Hope this is of help

Kent / Re: BALLARD ANCESTORS

Probably no connection at all but there was a Ballard in Deal in 1823. He was Thomas Ballard and his wife was Jane and was a seaman serving aboard HMS Ramillies, at the time manning the Watch House (forerunner of the Coastguard for which serving seamen were employed)  He must have been resident in Deal for a short spell as his daughter Grace was baptised here on 15th July 1823.
I only mention it beacause Ballard is not a Deal name and being in the Royal Navy would have been passing through, so to speak.

Hello Rosie

The Parish records for Mongeham show the following children of Stephen & Susann NEWEN. There are, incidentally, two possibles for Stephen's birth: 5/9/1779, parents John & Elizabeth, or 6/10/1745, parents Stephen & Catherine.

12/11/1786  Sarah
31/8/1788    Mary
24/10/1790  Stephen
  4/11/1792  William
22/2/1795    John
  6/8/1797    Edward
  9/8/1801    Ann
19/01/1804  Richard
  9/3/1806    Charlotte
The dates are of Baptism, not of Birth.
As far as I can see, the only Stephen and Susanna to have married in the area was Stephen NEWING of Langdon to Susanna FARRIER or TURNER (Widow) of Walmer at St Mary's Walmer on 21/9/1786.
NEWING has been spelt NEWEN, NEWIN and NOOIN but all are the same family.

Helo Karen

Recently joined Rootschat so several yearsa out of date with your request for Corys. Are you still looking?
I am not a Cory but have a lot of information re Deal families.

Your Maurice (Morris in PR) Henry CORY was baptised 5/3/1871 to Thomas Wiliam & Elizabeth Ann CORY, Boatman of 7, Bulwark Row.
They had several other children: Edward, Harriet, Mary, Richard, Sarah, Thomas & Thomas.

I realise this information may be well out of date but if I can be of any more help please let me know,

Hello Betty

Bit late I know but I haven't been a member long. This may be of interest.

Samuel SKINNER, Widower, Gas Stoker of Middle Deal married Fanny Eliza BUSHELL of Middle Deal on 3/7/1884. They had several children which I believe you know about.

Kent / Re: My DEAL surname interests
« on: Wednesday 18 May 11 15:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello, SAlty
Been trawling through records re the surnames you're looking for and have listed a few.
IRELAND. Not a large family at all. I have the children of George & Elsie IRELAND: Dorothty born 1923 and Nancy born 1927.

O,NEIL (various spellings)

Peter O'NEIL married Ann JURRITE in 1830

HARVEY (much bigger family)

Jesse & Frances had Arthur 1883, Charles 1878, Emily 1871, Ethel 1888, Frederick 1876, Herbert 1874, William 1870.
Other parents around the same period were Henry & Elizabeth, Alexander & Mary and John & Frances.

NORRIS is a huge family and I won't attempt to list anything without knowing where to start.

If the above are any help to you I can expand on details

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: William Newing

Hello again Mel

Following on from William's parents, John & Catherine, I have had a look and reckon that, if John was local to the area, he could only be either John born in Northbourne (nearby village to Worth) to Daniel & Elizabeth  (nee Kemp) on 17 July 1727 or John born 6 Jan 1733 to John & Mary, also in Northbourne. I know it's a bit vague and there's no way of being certain - it could even be a totally different branch of the family. There were a lot of Newings in Thanet and Whistable.

Helo, Darin

Am unable to find the Baptism of Lilian Harris or Beal in Deal. I have searched all the churches, RC included and drawn a blank. The only conclusion to be drawn from this is that (a) Lilian was never baptised, though if there is a record it seems she probably was or (b) she was baptised in another Parish.
If she is listed on FreeBMD as being born in Eastry then it is reasonable to suppose that a baptism record exists. Eastry area covers Deal, Sandwich and all the surrounding villages. Or it coud be Eastry itself.

I am so sorry I could not have been of more help,

Regards

Alastair
