The Common Room / Help with finding a family
« on: Sunday 11 October 20 19:58 BST (UK)  »
I have a birth certificate for Sarah Maria Dobinson born 8/4/1871.  Registrar's District Bethnal Green, Middlesex.  Father is Charles Dobinson.  Mother is Caroline Dobinson formerly Sprickett.  Father's occupation Button Maker.  X The mark of Caroline Dobinson mother 52 Camden Street, Bethnal Green, informant.

Have been unable to find family on 1871, 1881, 1891 census.

Not found a baptism or death for Sarah Maria, and no marriage between a Charles Dobinson and a Caroline Sprickett.

The birth is on GRO with the MMN of Sprickett.

Can any one find them?

Thanks

Delphia

Hi Debra

Yes there is a gap between the last two children for John and Mary, but have not come across any other children.

Hi

I have the death certificate for John 8 May 1855 92 years of age Master Tailor.

The 1851 census entry (hopefully found him on) he was with the Jeffrey family aged 88.  Kemsing Street, Sevenoaks, Kent.

Not sure about who he is supposed to be the father of, certainly not William Jeffrey!  As far as I am aware he never had a daughter Sarah.  As to the Ann and Elizabeth who are listed below him as sisters??

Hi

Mary and John's children were Ann christened 1793, Peggy christened 1798 Harriott christened 1801, and John christened 1813 who married Ann Harris.

As far as I am aware these are the only children Mary and John had.

Hi Keyboard86

Thanks for that.

I had seen the 1841 entry before but had discounted it.  Don't know if I'm reading the entry incorrectly but it reads to me as John and his wife Ann and son Thomas.

John's wife was Mary and as far as I am aware they did not have a son by the name of Thomas.

Hi

Many thanks for the replies.

Mary was christened 1771 Sevenoaks, Kent.  Daughter Ann was christened 1793 Sevenoaks, Kent.

Ann Married Thomas Bray Leffen in 1815, Brighton.

Trying the find the death of Mary, her husband John died in Kent in 1855.

Hi

Is it possible for a look up of the 1841 census for Richmond Hill, Brighton?

Mary Welfare was buried in January 1849 aged 77.  Just wondering if she is living with her daughter Ann Leffen and family.

The only Mary Welfare I have found on the 1841 of the right age was in an Institution!

Thank you

Hi

Thank you for the link to the site you posted which concentrated on the children and subsequent families who we have details of.  Mark posted the appeal on my behalf trying to help.

It is John we are trying to find details of, i.e. birth, marriage.

As you can see from the link he has been a brickwall for at least 25 years.
