Many thanks for your swift reply.  I will have to do some more research on this.  Why would the marrriage be registered at Newcastle under Lyme I wonder.   As I had not researched Ann's family further yet you've saved me going down the wrong line. Thanks again

Can anyone help with finding the birth of Charles Meeking born in Brewood in 1822. I have the details of his wife (Ann Handley) and their eight children, but need to find his birth in order to find his parents.  Any help gratefully appreciated. Thanks

Hi Andrew,
I don't have a grandfather for William but I do have details for his father William b1743 such as marrriage and death and their children.  Let me know if you need these and I'll gladly pass it on.

Thanks Claire.  Yes I saw that on IGI, but she got married in 1773 and that would have made her 14.

I've just found a death on familysearch which could well be her. In 1835 in Farnham (which is where her husband Richard Shortland died) aged 90, which makes her birth 1745.
Sounds very promising.  I don't have A.....ry so can I ask beg you to do one last look up for me and see if she's around being born in that year. :)

Huge thanks again.

Thanks alot Claire. I'm going to be cheeky now. ;)  There isn't a Mary Giles being born in Dorking about the right year to marry in 1773 is there...say 1750 - 1757?

Many thanks Claire. :)  Do you mind me asking where you found it?  If it's from the parish registers and you can't find anything closer, then I'm more likely to accept that it's my man.
I'm working on the theory that the fact that the marriage was in Dorking points more to the fact that that is probably where Mary Giles was from.

Hi there. I'm looking for the birth of my 4 x gt grandfather, Richard SHORTLAND, in order to find out who his parents were.
I know he was born abt 1750, married Mary Giles at Dorking on 4/5/1773, (I have all their 10 children) and died in Farnham on 17/12/1825.
Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

My 3 x gt grandfather, John VINCENT, was born about 1805 according to his age given on all censuses.
He also stated on every census that he was born in Bury St. Edmunds, but, try as I might, I cannot find him.
I have found a John VINCENT b.1789 d1800 in Bury St. Eds., to William VINCENT and Mary HOWE.
I feel these are  probably my John's parents, but can find no proof of this, although I have also found another 4 children to William and Mary...William b.1795, Thomas b.1797, Henry b.1808 and Robert b. 1815.
Any help would be gratefully received. If it's anything like the successes I have had on other threads I have high hopes. :D
Thanks in advance for any help.
