Antrim / Street Directories - O'Hara
« on: Friday 23 April 10 07:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am still trying to plot a course through history for the O'Hara's of the Bakery in Belfast. I have had a measure of success with the SD's of PRONI and Mary Lennon Wylie.

I still would like some gaps filled (wouldn't we all!)

The specifics are Thomas, James & William James O'Hara in Sd's from 1902 - 1909 incl and after 1911. They are all listed as being Bakers of course
 I have a gap from 1877 - 1884 as well and a Sarah or sarah Jane O'Hara from 1870 - 1875.

Thanks in advance

Bob

No Probs Trev,

The Mark Taylor on the right is my wife's Great Granddad and Mary McQuire is his wife. William is Marks Brother in law so I guess that you and my wife are related. I'll work it out and let you know.

Not sure why william took his mothers maiden name of Martin but it could be something to do with marriage and cousins

My Dad was born at 77a Highgate Hill in Oct 1919. His mum was unmarried and lived in Stoke Newington. My dad was subsequently adopted.

Quite agree there.  One thing is for sure - ancestors don't go anywhere - they just wait to be found! I am a bit busy with other things at the mo but keep hammering at me as I plan to commit all that I have to the PC then it will relatively easy to transmit it to you.  I'll make a special effort with the photo as it shows 3 generations dating from 1822 and was taken about 1890 so really it links almost to the present day

As far as I can see with the details that I have, the only george born was to William (McQuire) Martin and his wife. There is no substance to this that I can remember but I seem to recollect someone telling me that william changed his name because of some dodgy relationship. This whole tree is of my wife's family. There is no blood line between us so I have done it mainly out of interest and because I got hold of a load of indentures and other documents whn an old maiden aunt died from another line. The whole family of Taylors, Kennedys, Snooks and McQuires have lived in the same area for multi generations and are therefore relatively easy to research plus they all had large families. A quick look through records here do not show a George McQuarrie in the right palce at that right time

Hi Kris, Thats fabulous stuff - another leaf,  another branch. I had started to go back from 1907 which is the date that I had from somewhere but my eyes just started to close and off to bed I went. I have several links here who are looking into what appears to be the same family.

Thanks very much
Bob

further to my last, William Martin had a sister Sara Ann who also went to NZ about 1881/82. she married a john Thompson (1855 - 1927) on arrival at dunedin and settledon the west coast. children of sara ann (annie?) were martha, robert, joseph elizabeth & william
