Ireland / Irish Genealogy - Professional Reserch

Hi All,

I have hired a few genealogists in the past, only to learn their knowledge was limited and I'd already found the same information on my own prior to contacting them.

Is it possible to hire the same level of expertise as celebrities enjoy on WDYTYA? Any suggestion?

Thanks so much,
Brenda

Thanks to all. Maybe I'm just grasping at straws here.

The reason for exploring this is that not Denis (Moore) & Bridget (Law), nor any of their children I have identified, named a child Bridget. However, nearly all of them named a child Rose. Now I know there could be any number of reasons for this but thought it strange.

As Denis appears to have been Catholic, and it appears most Laws were not Catholic in Ireland at that time, I thought there might be a solution in there somewhere.

Thank you! So she would have had to do this prior to their marriage. Would there typically be any record of the adaptation of the new first name?

Also, in the 1830's, they would have been married in a COI church if they were mixed, is that right? Do you think it would have been in her home parish?

Ireland / Changing first name when becoming Catholic
« on: Monday 23 January 23 01:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Some time ago someone told me about non-Catholic Irish who changed their first names when marrying a Catholic spouse...or something similar. I wanted to refer back to the post but was unable to locate it.

In my case, it would be a non-Catholic woman who married a Catholic man in the 1830's., and potentially changed her first name to Bridget. I'm looking for articles/more information regarding the topic. Is anyone familiar with this topic?

Appreciate it!
Brenda

Thank you! That was very kind of you. Unfortunately the date fell before my family lived there BUT it does narrow down the time period for me and that helps. I very much appreciate your time! Looking online the home prices appear to gone up a bit  :D So would the cottage be gone now or just hard to identify at this point?

Thank you so much,
Brenda

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Highland Road Cemetery in Portsmouth/General Inquiry
« on: Friday 19 August 22 01:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

We found our ancestors were buried at Highland Road Cemetery in Portsmouth. However, we dug deeper (no pun intended) and were told the graves were "rented" for 25 years at a time and what was once the husband's grave, has now been relet. The wife is still there. Wow! I'm in the U.S. and this is completely new to me. Any ideas what happens to someone who is "relocated" from a cemetery? I'm assuming the family couldn't cover the bill anymore but left the wife in place. Just wondering what thoughts you might have on this topic as it was a real mind blower for us over here.

Thank you!

But perhaps some host of COI or Presbyterian record if I dig hard enough right?

I'm afraid I don't understand what you are asking. The Church of Ireland and the Presbyterian Church are entirely separate.

So sorry, what a I meant to say is, if Denis was Catholic and Bridget was either Presbyterian or COL, perhaps there is a marriage record available in the Presb or COL reocrds
