Australia Lookups completed / Re: Emigration to Tasmania in the 1840s
« on: Sunday 31 August 08 06:56 BST (UK)  »
Sorry I posted in the wrong place, I'm not the world's best on computers  :-\
Thank you very much for your reply Trish,I'll look up those links.
My gt gt grandad's brother who was transported in 1842 was Henry Lodge,Great Canfield,Essex. The brother we think may have followed him, was William Lodge born 1821, Great Canfield,he was unmarried, working on a farm in Great Canfield in 1841, then he disappeared. We can't find his death and think he may be the brother who followed Henry to Tasmania.
Any help much appreciated.
Thank you
Ruth  :)

My gt gt grandad's brother was transported to Tasmania as a convict in 1842. I am trying to find another brother who may have followed him  to Tasmania, from Essex, but not as a convict, between 1842 and 1851, and settled there.
Please could anyone tell me how and where to start looking for him ?
Thanks,
Ruth

Thanks again

This is interesting Jelnel, we have some of the same witnesses ! John Poulter and Joseph Purkiss, it looks like our ancestors had some friends in common, do you think ?
Thanks again Kath,I do love finding out these things.

www.archives.tas.gov.au

This might be helpful as I found some details of a convict ancestor here.
