World War One / My great-great grandfather

Hi,

I am looking for information on my great-grandfather, Edmund Mellor, who I know was a Private in the 1st Batallion Worcestershire Regiment in April 1918. After this he seems to drop of the radar and I was wondering if there are any records of him from the war.

Very much so. He was in the Worcester Regiment 1st batallion at the time of his wife's death in April 1918 which I think might be my next port of call. Perhaps he decided to go back to Williams?

Probate for Jesse Williams otherwise Mellor
The children have all been baptised under the name of Williams

That would explain the Williams and the Mellor question. Although not why two of his children were born Williams.

Having just obtained Jonathans birth certificate it states his mother is Mary Stone formerly Tomlinson.

That is very interesting. I wonder where the Mellor comes from? Perhaps she remarried or something. Although quite why he would name his first two children Williams and then the rest Mellor is a total mystery.

Were William Mellor and Emma married? Were the children Emma's from a previous marriage or relationship?
Can't find a marriage for William & Emma but maybe Williams was her married name and she is indexed under her maiden name.
