World War One / WW1 Deserter
« on: Friday 08 March 13 16:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,

I have found a medal card for Boris Miseritizsky who is listed as a deserter from the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1917.

I am wondering if there is any other information I can find out about Boris.  Newspaper clipping, war diary, service record  :-\

Thanks for any assistance.

Canada / Home Children Database at Library & Archives Canada
« on: Friday 14 October 11 19:29 BST (UK)  »
Just thought I would post a quite note to advise that Library and Archives Canada have updated their Home Children Database.

More than 20,000 names of children, who came to Canada between 1925 and 1932, were added to the extended version.

The Lighter Side / WWII Medal found & Returned to Family
« on: Friday 20 May 11 14:48 BST (UK)  »
A family member of mine, Austin Heffernan was killed June 6, 1945.  His mother was given a medal for his services.

A lady found this medal recently at a church bazarre and took it home to try and locate a family member.  She got in touch with another relative of mine and gave him them medal.

The family has decided to donate the medal to the Historical Society of the Town where Austin was from.  So this Sunday Austin will be honoured at mass and then after we are having a presentation to the historical society.

Lots of family are coming as well for a reunion.  I'm quite excited as I have not met lots of my Heffernan relations.

Should be lots of fun!

Just looking at the "what's new" on the LAC site and see that they have added a database for Upper Canada Land Petitions (1763-1865)
