Hi there,

How do I go about trying to obtain a birth certificate for someone in the year 1846 in Ireland?  Is it possible?

Thanks

Hi Debbie,

The same thing happened to me.   I should try and scan the picture and post it with the tracing to see if that will help, but Tintton seems to be in the lead sofar as the closest.

Hi Tabitha,

Thanks for the tip.  One of the pictures is of Conwy Castle.  Thomas, who painted them was a butler for someone.  He was originally from Surrey.  At some point he was at Conwy Castle and then he's met and married in Ireland and then in 1910 came to Canada.   Whoever he worked for I believe that is how he got to these places.  He died in 1921 so no one was able to ask him questions.  The last place I have him in living/working at is Lisselan Estate in Clonakilty, Co. Cork before he came to Canada.

Thanks for the link, it is very beautiful.

I am attaching what is written on the back, I have traced it exactly, so perhaps that may help.

Thanks

The Common Room / Finding Location of an Abbey - Solved!
« on: Monday 23 May 05 22:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

My great-grandfather used to do watercolours and we still have a few.  One one of them is ruins and on the back is written what looks to be like the following

Imtion Abbey

Any ideas what or where this may be?

Thanks

Kerry / Re: Heffernan Family
« on: Monday 23 May 05 20:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi Audrey,

The only information I have is

John C. Heffernan was born c1820 and married Mary McGinn.  Mary McGinn is the daughter of John McGinn.

One of their sons, Charles John Heffernan who was born in 1843 in Ontario, Canada married a girl named Bridget Dowd in 1871 in Ontario, Canada, however Bridget was apparently born in 1849 in Kerry and was the daughter of Cornelius Dowd and Johanna Ferritor.  Two other Heffernan boys married Dowd girls in Ontario.  Perhaps the families new of each other back in Ireland and that's why they settled in the same area in Ontario?

Thanks for looking
