Yes, we have Jen.  Originally I only wanted to get an estimate of the date of the photo, but now I am interested in seeing if it can be restored.

Cheers

This is believed to be John Ricketts of Haddenham Buks 1801-1879, our g g grandfather.  It would be appreciated if some restorative work would breathe some life into out ancestor!

restorer45  - what an amazingly different result - skin colouring, hair and also the background - so much like a painting!  Love it and thank you.

Tracey - your restoration is remarkable.  I can see Caroline's daughter's likeness in this edition and I just love her hair.  Thank you - your time is much appreciated.

It most certainly does help... many thanks Jim, for your detailed explanation of the difference between the two sorts of photographers at work ...It is especially good to learn that employee photos were a common practice at the time.  I have many examples of family studio photos of the Victorian era which my Ricketts relly brought with him to Australia when he migrated in 1886 but this photo is definitely the "weirdest" one I have ever seen.  I would be very happy coming away from this discussion believing the photo was taken around the 1860's/1870's.
I cannot thank you enough, Jim, your knowledge is very much appreciated.

Regards
Pat
