According to John Houghton’s will dated 1829, Thomas Houghton (father to Susanna who married Henry Clarke in 1790) had a brother James who had a daughter Elizabeth who also married a Clarke.  Have you looked into this Clarke family?

Regarding the family in Union Place in 1851, in 1841 they are living in St.Pancras, which is where Mary Ann Pell claims to have been born on the 1871.

In 1851 the mother Ann is 57 years old, whereas Henry is only 9.  Ten years younger than his nearest sibling.  Which makes Mary a likely candidate to be his mother.

The John Pell living with Mary Ann was born in Maidstone.  There is a John Pell who died in 1865 in south London, but was buried in Maidstone.

I agree that the above theory looks promising.  Does anyone else think that the 1780 marriage signature for Samuel looks very much like the witness signature on the Mary Scutchey 1806 marriage?  Maybe the daughter of Samuel and Mary.

Mary Scutchey born  c.1758, buried 1817 St.Leonard, Shoreditch

There’s a Mary Scutchey marrying Richard Read at Lambeth in 1806.  One of the witnesses is Samuel Scutchey.   A sister maybe.

We need Hamish Slade who added that information to the records in 2016.
