Thank you Tony.  Your picture gives more depth to the building behind, making it look more solid than just a backdrop.

Seoras and Jim have both convinced me they're right  :-\
If it's not a photo studio, I wonder where it could be.  My nan spent her childhood in the Haggerstone/Hoxton/Hackney area. The building looks too twee to have been there.

She was baptised at Haggerstone Church, but having googled old pictures of the church. it doesn't look as though it was taken there.

Thanks Seoras,   That would, of course, make more sense.

Thank you, that does make it clearer.

And with that raises more questions.  What does the middle woman have on her lap, under the hankie?  And is the woman on the right wearing two watches?

I've added a request to see if anyone can make this photo clearer.

There just might be hidden clues in their somewhere.

Ooh yes.  I see the floorboards now.

I had thought the building didn't look quite real, but they appear to be on grass and have some sort of vine growing up the left-hand wall.

For reasons of their own, pretending to be outside when they are really inside.

Thanks for your replies.   You both think it could be 1894.   So possibly the baptism.

Unfortunately, I don't have the original.  This copy was sent to me about 5 years ago.  The sender insisted that there was nothing else written on it.

I'm going to check who else was baptised at the church that day, and see if it could fit in.  Although I would expect to see a couple of babies there.

Another photo that I'd appreciate some help with please.

The girl at the front, on the right, is my nan.  She was born Feb.1887 and baptised Jan.1894

I have no idea who the others in the photo might be, and wondered if this might have been taken at the baptism.  Could it be 1894?

My nan would have been one month short of 7 years old, but I think she looks a little older than that.  She had a brother, born December 1888 (not baptised at the same time) but I think the little boy looks to young to be him.

My nan's mother was born in 1870, so couldn't be the woman who my nan is leaning on.

I'd love to hear someone else's opinions.  Thanks.

Also, do you think that's a hankie on the middle woman's lap?

I'm so pleased with the informative replies I've had on here, that I'm going to post another photo which has me flummoxed.

Thanks James.

I'm still trying to work out who he might be.  And that could help when looking through the Army Records.     So a "qualified cavalry swordsman" He only looks about 16!!
