The Common Room / Census remarks

Been browsing an 1821 census, and fascinating but odd to see such things as "bastard" "idiot" or "husband gone in madhouse"!

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Eleanor Haynes.
« on: Thursday 27 May 21 09:29 BST (UK)  »
Eleanor married Richard Ellis in 1738 at Shrewsbury  they are widow and widowed according to the record which also gives her age as 30. Trouble is, i cant find any record of her previous marriage. Haynes would have been her married name right? Or is it possible she reverted back to her birth name? Regards Neil

The Common Room / Couple of questions
« on: Thursday 28 January 21 17:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi  just a couple of questions. Firstly, if a couple get married, say around 1750, and they are both widow and widowed, does it have to appear on the cert? Also, i have a bride who is an ancestor born in 1739 with 2 poss suitors, one born same yr and the other in 1741. My question is, how common or rare would it have been for the bride to be older than groom or can i say the 1739 guy is the fit?

There doesnt seem to be any mention of Wellington before 1700? In fact i think one of my ancestors was the first Ellis to be wed in Welly 1739 iirc.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Gf x6 John
« on: Wednesday 06 January 21 17:11 GMT (UK)  »
So i have established my gfx6 is John Ellis who married Sussanah Wilson in Wellington 1763, problem is 2 Johns are candidates, one born 1739 and the other 41, need to eliminate one but cant find either a death or marriage for one of them in the 1760s. Only thing i have is a death cert for a John 1826 living at Rock aged 88 or 89 which would fit to the 39 John, but the other is a mystery....
