Hi Radcliff , Carole W and Jamjar

many thanks for your replies

Radcliff. Definitely Crowther not Crawford. Interesting suggestion about the burial. I am in london so not sure where to find info about Manchester burials from

Carole W. ive found the same info as you. If the child was still born would there be a birth and death certificate. I dont know about this.
Ive also wondered whether they split up after Sams death and Sophia remarried. But why would Morris show himself as a widower for his second marriage if it was not the case

Jamjar. This was me when i first started researching this in 2014

I am just off to spend the afternoon at the London Metropolitan Archives so ive got some interesting questions to ask

many thanks again

I first started researching this case in 2014  but hopefully looking at it from a different angle might bear fruit

Sophia Crowther was born in 1887 in Saddleworth. In the 1901 census she is living at 1 Sheepfoot Lane, Oldham

On 22nd December 1908 she married Morris Simelman who sometimes used the name Morris Gross

In 1910 they had a son Sam Simelman who died in 1911

In the 1911 census Sophia and Morris Gross are shown as living at 60 Charlotte Street Hightown. The census shows they had two children who had both died. As they married in 1908 I am assuming that Sam was their second child. However I can find no record of a child with the name Gross, Simelman or Crowther being born and dying which matches.

At some stage after 1911 Sophia must have died, but i can find no record of this using all three names above

In 1919 Morris remarries in Leeds and he is shown on the marriage certificate as being a widower

If any one has any clues as to the missing child or Sophia's death I would be pleased to hear from you

I am trying to track the dependants of Joseph Isidore Solomons who died in 2007 in Cardiff. his wife was Dora Solomons (nee Hawthorn) who died in 2006. I believe they had a daughter in 1956 . I have a name but wont put it on here as she is probably still alive. I have an address 8 Waterloo Road, Cardiff, CF23 9BU. where they may have lived about 15 years ago.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated

Hi ladyhawk

Just a quick update . Sandringham Road is actually covered by Sutton Council
If you type into google- Britannia pub- 185 Bow common lane. takes you to an interesting web site showing names of publicans at the end pub. Defries was there for many years

Hi Ladyhawk

Many thanks for all your contributions. Info relating to 185 Bow Common Lane all accurate.
It looks as though the Surrey info is held at the Surrey history Centre in Woking. I think I will wait and see what Benjamin 's will says before I plan my next step.

Co-incidentally I received an e-mail from Benjamins nephew (Sidneys son) to say that his late sister started a family tree , which has gone missing since her passing. He says that he and her husband will make a concerted effort to find the tree.

Hopefully things are starting to fall into place

Many thanks

Many thanks Ladyhawk and Liz

Liz. Death cert only says sister in law but it looks as though she was also living at Sandringham Road in 2001 as Sidney had passed away earlier. She passed away  a few months after Benjamin

Ladyhawk
So we know in 1946 he was still in Bow, by the time we get to 1967 he is living in Worcester park with his mother Matilda. So it looks as though he stayed there till his death in 2001. So in his late 40's he was living at home with his mother, so it seems reasonable to assume he wasn't married
As JJ suggested I have applied for his will, I get the impression this wont be overly helpful.

Does anyone have the address for where electoral registers for Kingston are kept as it may be worth a visit. Or are these records available on ancestry

many thanks
