I really appreciate your efforts on Cadder Chris ...you don't mention my great, great grandparents John Morrison and Charlotte Wright whom I know are buried there, I have personally seen their gravestones in Cadder, did you not see them? Regards, Lindsay

Hello, I certainly am interested, thank you!  William Lyon Gibson - married to Annie - was my GG Uncle. :) His mother, Elizabeth Hewitt Gibson whom I believe is also buried in Oamaru was my GG grandmother. I have a LOT of Gibson and Hewitt info if it is of any interest to you?

Would just like to say thanks to the other people that posted here, I am not sure why I didn't see those notifications before now, very sorry for not thanking sooner.

Regards,

Lindsay

Stirlingshire / Re: MORRISON - Killearn

Hi Neil, sorry for the late reply, I have been away for work ...

Yes, Alexander Morrison and Mary Stirling who married 26th November 1830 in Killearn were your Great, Great Grandparents (2G), they were my 3G Grandparents (do not buy the certs, I have all that are relevant and will share).

Alexander was the son of Andrew Mor(r)ison and Margaret Baird, married 2nd November 1800 in Falkirk, they are my number one brickwall and have been for 30 years!!! Andrew died 19th July 1811 - his 3rd son, Andrew's christening says that he was the son of the 'late' Andrew Morrison.

Of their five children, I can only find Alexander's line. I believe - but cannot confirm - that their son William, born 17th April 1804, died in England (English death certificates of that time do not name the parent's names but I think it is him based on other information i.e. age, birthplace and SNP).

As for Mary Stirling's parents, yes, her parents were James Stirling and Elizabeth McIndoe BUT whether they are the JS and EM married 16th July 1801 in Killearn and consequently the daughter of Robert McIndoe and Bethia Duncan is unsubstantiated, yes, I believe this as do my modern day McIndoe and Duncan 'cousins' but I have never been able to put together a paper trail ....

James Stirling's provenance is unknown to me.

p.s. You said you didn't intend to go back any further, be careful, this stuff is addictive  ;D ;D ;D

Hello Neil, Happy New Year  :) 15 years, unbelievable, that makes us 3rd cousins once removed.

I haven't done much genealogy recently but I don't think that I ever found out what happened to Alexander Morrison, brother to Agnes Gourlay Morrison, will be happy with whatever you can tell me please?

I know Agnes married Hugh Cameron and had at least two daughters, Annie McGregor Cameron and Jessie McKay Cameron.

I think from memory that you need to make at least three posts here on RC before we can private message each other (if you don't want to post in public). I have a lot of Morrison history that I can share with you.

regards,

Lindsay

Hi, I am Lindsay, 2G grandaughter of Maria Aitken Simpson and 3G grandaughter of Matilda Norris Wilkinson ... I just came across your message. Sarah didn't die in Ireland, she married in Scotland and had many children. This is a very old message, PM me if you are still looking  :)

Hello, just wondering if there is anyone living in Oamaru who may be visiting Oamaru Old Cemetery and might be willing to check whether there are any headstones located on the GIBSON graves at Block 133, Plot 32 & 33 and Block 518, Plot 6 for me please?

Many thanks,

Lindsay

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: The Times wants your views: DNA ethnicity results
« on: Wednesday 03 February 16 18:35 GMT (UK)  »
I was an early 'joiner' of one of the Scottish Surname DNA projects about ten years ago hoping to overcome my brickwall. To date, there haven't been any matches for my family which I guess is telling in itself  :) but hundreds of wonderful results for others in the project. It is very exciting to see the picture being built and amazing the connections that have been made that would not otherwise have been.

Lanarkshire / Re: The mystery of Elizabeth Hewitt ..

Hello Kath, thank you for this information, I did find Elizabeth a while back - it is so long since I posted this I had forgotten about it - and knew about William and his wife going to Oamaru with her but not about the girls going earlier. You will not believe it but having torn my hair out over Elizabeth for years, my mother (she was my father's great grandmother) said to me a couple of years ago 'oh you should have asked me, I knew she was in NZ'  ::)

Are you related to the family? I knew them when I was small many years ago and have often thought I really should take a trip down to Oamaru (I am in Wellington) and look them up again.

regards,

Lindsay
