The Stay Safe Board / Re: Diary summary week ending 17th December

I decided to go to the local Methodist Church carol service last evening. What a splendid service- full house-,ladies choir and lots of good singing from the congregation. I felt comfortable and am sure that Jane was with me in spirit as she always enjoyed her singing. And then mince pies and tea or coffee.
Mark down from London for the day. I will be going to stay with him at Christmas.
Viktoria I will let you have details of the hymns etc. Funeral 11th January- cremation followed by a Thanksgiving Service in the church where Jane worked for nearly 20 years in a Church and Community project in a rather run down area of Bath.
Thanks to all for your messages of sympathy . They are a great help at this time.
Lots to do this week so I will be kept busy and out of mischief.

Sadly, Christmas 2023 will be very subdued in this house. My dear wife, Jane, sadly died peacefully in her sleep on 11th December. This followed 5 years of suffering Alzheimer's and subsequently a very sudden onset of Bowel Cancer. After a period of 5 weeks in hospital she was discharged three weeks ago to return home for her final days with an appropriate care package.
I have to say that the care she received , both in hospital and at home from her carers was first class, which made her final days with us so much more comfortable and bearable.
RIP my darling in the arms of the Lord- You good and faithful servant.

Viktoria- you mentioned Robert Falcon Scott of Antarctic fame. In the village churchyard at Holcombe, up in the Mendip Hills about 5 miles from us here in Radstock is a memorial to him, on the family grave stone. His father, originally from Plymouth came to the village of Holcombe to manage the local brewery and when he died was buried in the local churchyard.
Holcombe has another claim to fame as being one of the plague villages of the 14th Century (1348). The church of St Andrews still stands in the old village location. It is now a closed church but used on certain occasions during the year.  The villagers who survived resettled about a mile further up the hill.

Flood waters now receding . The water overtopped this bridge link from Bega to Tarraganda but is now clear.

Just had a note from son in Oz (Far South Coast NSW) , fierce storm, over 160mm rain yesterday. Flooding imminent in Bega, but the storm has been a lot worse north of them towards Woolongong.

Thanks for that note. I think what you have described is the audio version, a copy of which I have. I am looking for a manuscript version. rj
